CHAPTER TWELVE
AGNES LEFAY
I sucked in a huge gasping breath. Shock running through my body, startling me awake as the splash of icy cold water dumped over my head; hitting every nerve ending.
"Wake up, girl!" Clara demanded in my face as she leaned over me like she wasn't the one that had drugged me to sleep in the first place. She had a nerve.
My head was thick and fuzzy from whatever she had given me and my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth as if filled with cotton. I struggled to sit up, my muscles still relaxed and uncooperative.
"What did you give me?" I asked. My voice sounding gravelly and thick with sleep.
"Just something they gave me after my husband died," she waved off nonchalantly "pack a punch, don't they?" My eyes narrowed as anger at her casualness took over me. Although her motives had been admirable, both of us having the guys best interests at heart; her actions were somewhat questionable. She could've just talked to me like a normal person but instead, choosing to spike my coffee with something that felt like it could have subdued an elephant with half the amount that was given to me.
I opened my mouth to tell her just that but her finger pressed against my lips, effectively shushing me and cutting me off with her words.
"Jay's hurt and he needs you." Her face serious and eyes pleading "Now!"
The urgency in her voice made my blood run cold. Jay was here and he was hurt, but how? I thought the exchange was for Blake, so why was Jay here? Had the exchange gone wrong? Is that how Jay was hurt, what about Blake is he hurt too?
"Where's Blake?" I demanded, rising up onto wobbly legs. Clara's arms shot out to steady me but I waved her off, too proud to accept her help. She thought of me as the wild card. The thing that was going to destroy the guys. I couldn't let her know that she was right. Not right now anyway.
"He's okay-" My head snapped to look her in the face. They were here. They were all here, all under one roof. "He's not hurt but Jay..." She paused "I'm not sure what happened. But come on, we need you to help him."
She supported my weight as she led me to the guestroom Connor and I had shared the night before and this time, I let her. Where was Connor?
Clara opened the door for me, my steps faltering when my eyes landed on Blake standing in front of me. He stood tall and imposing in the small room, even though I could tell he was weakened by whatever they had done to him at the ARC. He looked like shit but so good all at the same time. Anger boiled the blood in my veins and it only intensified when I saw the scattering of silver crescent scars marring the skin that was not covered in blood. Why was there so much bood, Clara had said that he wasn't hurt?
"Blake." I breathed, relief coursing through me as I headed towards him. The urge to throw my arms around him and never let go, burned brightly in my chest. The compulsion was almost too painful to ignore.
"I'm here, Princess." He whispered in a soft voice with a small sad smile on his lips. "But we'll catch up soon. Jay first."
I sucked in a sharp breath as he stepped aside revealing Jay laying deathly still on the bed behind him. I now understood where all the blood covering Blake had come from. The macabre sight in front of me turned my stomach into a churning cyclone. Bile rising up my throat, making my mouth water and not from hunger.
The click of a shotgun hammer being pulled back only inches behind me had me straightening my back.
"Make one wrong move dead girl and I'll take your head clean off your shoulders!" Clara threatened. I didn't need to look at her to know that she meant every word of it. "You're here to help him not for a breakfast buffet so-"
