"He did what?!"
Ali stared at me with wide eyes as she slammed her palms onto the table, making the water in my glass tremble.
"I told you...He kissed me.."
Her mouth was now open as heavy breaths left her mouth and her eyes darted around the room.
"That little—"
"Ali!"
I whacked her with a small gush of wind, causing her to look at me with surprise as her expression changed. Her eyes softened and she pressed her lips together. Her lips slightly curled up into a smile as she looked at me."You liked it, didn't you?"
I instantly lowered my head to hide the creeping redness growing on my cheeks, earning a loud scoff from my friend who now had a smirk plastered on her face.
"Ali..I—"
"You don't need to say anything to me Illa. I'm okay. In all honesty, I kind of saw it coming,"
I looked up at her with my head tilted.
"What do you mean?"She scoffed again, bringing her arms up to the back of her head as she leaned against her chair.
"When you and San are together, it's different. You're both genuinely happy, and despite us being best friends, I've never seen you light up the way you do when you're with him,"
"W-what? N-no I.."
The sound of the door opening made me look to the black-haired boatswain who entered with a small grin on his face. He examined our faces before widening his eyes.
"I interrupted something, didn't I?"
I looked up at Seonghwa, then back to my hands on the table. An idea flashed through my mind and the next thing I knew was that l was out of my chair and my hand was latched onto Seonghwa's arm. I pulled him out of the door and slammed it behind us before taking a deep breath as I leaned against the wooden walls. I closed my eyes and tried to calm the thoughts that were racing through my mind.
"Illa are you okay?"He brought his hands up to my face and brushed the loose strands from my cheeks, eyeing me carefully.
"You're shaking.."I looked him in the eyes and nodded slowly.
"I just— I just need to get out of here.."He nodded and gently took my hand in his, leading me out of the cabin to the main deck. I looked at him strangely as he led me to the gangplank.
"What are you doing?""You said you wanted to get out of here right?"
I looked at him as a smile graced his lips.
"Come on, this is my kingdom after all!" He gave me a wink before pulling me onto the plank and down onto the dock.
We ran. We ran like our lives depended on it, through the town and it's back alleyways before we reached the end. Just grass green hills and towering gum-trees filled my vision as Seonghwa's fingers were still intertwined with mine. He had a big toothy grin on his face, complementing the bouncing strands of his hair moving up and down in time with his every step. I took deep breaths as I kept up with him, the wind coursing through my hair and the warm rays of sunshine settling on my skin. He slowed down when we got to the edge of the forest, turning back to me before ducking under a fallen tree trunk and calling me to do the same.
My eyes widened and my jaw dropped as I looked out at the sight in front of me. We were standing on a little beach adorned with white sand, the foot of a mountain staring back at us with a cosmic of sandstone and sienna patterns embedded into it. The water was a light turquoise colour and it was as clear as the sky after a big storm, every rock and shell and tiny fish could be seen in it. A gasp finally managed to escape my lips as I looked to Seonghwa who seemed to be waiting for my reaction. He stifled a laugh and put his hand on my back, gesturing for me to sit down on the warm and soft sand.
