I often wondered if I would ever become an interior designer.
It was my passion; the one and only thing I've ever cared about.
Most of my time was spent playing the Sims, however, I used it as a program to practice interior design, of course. I never actually played the game for what it was intended for.
I took the classes, made a 100 on every project, and was applauded for my skill, but I still was nervous that I wouldn't become one.
Until one day, I blacked out.
I gasped for air, but nothing came to me. I felt like I was going to die.
"Hello, Camille," a strange, female voice said. She sounded almost computer automated.
Suddenly I could breathe again. "How do you know my name?" I asked, my voice shaking.
"Oh, Camille," she laughed. "I've known your name since the day you were born. When I saw your cute little face, I just had to pick you."
"Haha, um, what?" I said. "Can you please tell me what the hell is going on here?"
"Language," she spat. "Anyway, I picked you on your birthday. I've been tracking your memories since day one. I know all your secrets, your favorite things, and I know all about your burning desire to become an interior designer."
I shook my head. "No. No. You know everything? You can't possibly know everything about me."
"Oh really?" sassed the voice. "I know that you just have the biggest crush on Tatiana."
I blushed, well, at least I think I did. I couldn't feel anything at this point.
"I- I don't. Nobody is supposed to know that I'm bi..." I said.
"See, told you I know everything. Now, let's get you started here." she said gently.
Thousands of memories floated around me. I recognized only some of them. I finally had my body back.
"This is amazing..." I whispered, slowly trailing off my sentence.
"It's really cool right?! Anyway, this is your whole life in memories. There are millions of them." she said.
"Camille. You are very special. In my twenty five thousand years of existence, I have only chosen one other person to do this. He just submitted out of this program thirty years ago."
"Just thirty years ago. Okay. So I'm guessing time passes really fast here." I told her.
"Yes, actually. To you, thirty years feels like a long time, but to me, it feels like two years or so." she replied. "Anyway, back to all the 'you are special' stuff."
"You have been given the chance of being able to change your fate. You can go back into any of these memories and change anything about it." she said.
"This is so cool! Which one should I test out first?" I asked.
"Anyone you'd like. I promise you, your life is very interesting." replied the voice.
I stuck my hand through one of the screens and it disappeared in front of me. Then I just went straight for it. This was my life now. Better get used to it.
