So this book has been a bit inactive recently bc I'm trying to make my side books more active since the updates in them are quite spaced out. That's it, that's the update. I thought I'd just clear that up real quick.

BUT, I HAVE A DN RELATED STORY TIME FOR YOU. This happened a while ago but every time it crosses my mind I laugh about it.

Let me tell you about the time I was told gender-bending cosplays is cringey... when I wasn't even genderbent.

Who was I cosplaying? Probably the most androgynous boy in all of Death Note, Near. For reference, here's what the cosplay looks like.

So I posted this cosplay, and after about a day of it being up. Someone commented in a 'I'm pretending it's criticism but it's definitely not' way under it. The comment was like a whole novel long. So I'll shorten it by taking direct quotes from it.

"To me there comes a line between amazingly cosplayed to just plane cringe, and don't get me wrong cosplay as much as you like"

Wait for it-

"But please stop giving gender swap look to traditionally masculine characters, it just makes you look cringy as hell"

BITCH WHEN I TELL YOU I WAS WHEEZING AT THAT.

NEAR? TRADITIONALLY MASCULINE???

YEAH SURE MATE.

My actual reaction to that comment:

What I find so funny about it is that I WASNT EVEN GENDER BENDING HIM.

Like I don't think the guy understood the fact I'm a CROSSPLAYER. I am a girl who dresses as boy characters, and I can't exactly erase all my femininity with a bit of makeup and a wig. Yes it helps, but my face shape and body shape is still feminine.

Also Near? NEAR? Talk about a fem-boy. Compared to L or Matt or Light he's very soft, small and a lot more feminine than they are. Like yes it's still clear he's a boy, but a very soft androgynous one.

Like,, throwing in "cosplay all you like" doesn't make your comment less shitty mate. You're lucky I don't take this kind do stuff seriously bc of it was directed it someone else it could seriously hurt them.

Now let me educate you on why gender bending in cosplay is ok.

1. Dysphoria.

Are you trans and want to cosplay your favourite character but can't because they're the opposite gender as you and it would give you dysphoria? THATS WHERE GENDER BENDING CAN SAVE YOU! You can still cosplay that character, just as they oppose gender. It literally helps people relive dysphoria.

2. It's literally not harming anyone

Like,, it's not. Gender swapping a character? Slapping some tits and long hair on a boy character? Slapping a dick and short hair on a girl character? Not hurting anyone. It's just for fun, it's just art.

3. AUs

Cosplaying an serious AU or crack AU where that character gets turned into the opposite gender? Literally just a bit of fun. That's it.

4. Imma call this thing reverse dysphoria.

Some people are uncomfortable dressing as a character that's the opposite gender when if they aren't trans. So they gender swap them so they can be that character and be comfortable. Literally not even hurting anyone.

Cosplay is about creativity and feeling COMFORTABLE. Just because I'm down to be a boy or a girl character and you aren't, and I'm adding smaller touches to characters that's how I see said character, just because it doesn't look how you want them to doesn't mean you can tell people it's cringe to gender bend. I LITERALLY WASNT EVEN GENDER BENDING!!!!

I looked at this person prof and tbh they look like they're young and just discovering fandom/cosplay and don't really understand gender expression in cosplay. Or gender expression at all. I worry for any androgynous/non-binary/trans people that have to interact with people who refuse to try understand gender expression.

Girls can be masculine, boys can be feminine, boys and girls can be androgynous. Gender bending is ok, cross dressing is ok. Being trans/non binary is ok. End of story.

And I'm my humble opinion, feminine boys are the best ones. Hence why I cosplay boys in such a way where I'm clearly cosplaying a boy but I don't make an effort to hide my clearly female hips or face shape.

I honestly just find this so funny because I literally wasn't even gender bending in the first place. Idk maybe I just have a weird sense of humour but I was WHEEZING at that comment.

Me: *is not even gender bending, is just a crossplayer*

Last thing I'll add to this little update story time chapter.

Honestly the fact that I match with fucking Greg Heffly is so cursed. Although the books were my whole ass childhood, after seeing the parody twitter accounts I've been scarred.
