"I'm so happy to see your beautiful face again!" Rue squeals when I get out of my dad's truck.

She hobbles over and jumps into my arms. I laugh since this isn't like Rue at all. She usually hates hugging people.

"We have a surprise for you!" Anna says, running over and taking my hand.

She practically drags me into my dad's apartment where I'm met with Leo's smiling face. "Surprise!" he smirks.

I look around in awe at the pink and purple balloons and streamers, a table that holds all my favorite snacks and a giant card it looks like everyone has signed.

"Wow, thanks guys!" I say, trying to seem grateful.

It's not that I'm not grateful, just not in the mood to smile. It feels like a chore. Work. I hate it.

Leo pulls me into his arms and hugs me tight. "I've missed you so much."

"I missed you too," I mumble into his chest.

"For the record, I told them you wouldn't be up for this party," he whispers.

I look at him and smirk. "You know me so well."

"So? What do you think of my decorations?" dad grins, walking into the apartment.

"You did all this?" I ask, furrowing my brows.

"He had nothing to do with this," Anna says, giving him a bored look. "Rue and I did all of the decorations and Leo was responsible for the food."

"Who do you think paid for it?" Dad asks, giving Anna a look.

"I love it. I appreciate all of you so much for doing this for me," I reply.

"Anything for you," dad smiles.

We all eat some delicious food and sit around and talk for about an hour or so. Dad, Anna and Rue are all laughing and carrying on as if everything is fine. I get why they're doing it. They want to return some normalcy to my life. I wish it were even possible. But it's not. Not right now, anyway.

Leo keeps watching me, studying me. He knows I don' feel like laughing or smiling. He knows I don't have a reason to celebrate right now. It seems like lately, he's the only one who even knows me anymore.

After everyone's gone, Leo and I finally get some alone time. And we don't let it go to waste. We walk into my bedroom and as soon as the door closes, I press my lips to his. It's been so long since I've been able to kiss him. Too long.

"I've missed this," he whispers against my lips, smiling.

"Me too," I whisper back.

He gently pushes me back on the bed and climbs over me, never breaking our kiss. Despite so many things being on my mind, I manage to push everything else aside and just enjoy my time with him. We never get to do this anymore. We're so busy worrying about keeping each other safe, we've completely neglected everything else. And while I love that Leo makes me feel safe, I love that he makes me feel so many other things too.

I nearly jump out of my skin when we hear a loud crash. I spring up from the bed just in time to see my bedroom window shattering to pieces.

"Get down!" Leo says, pushing me to the floor.

I quickly get down on the floor and watch in horror as Leo moved towards the window. He looks around before growling in frustration. "I know you're out there! Just come on out and stop hiding like a coward!"

"What are you doing?!" I hiss. "We can't just invite him in!"

"Sure we can," he turns around and shrugs at me. "And when he does, I'll bash his brains in."
