*aka the "Boreal Forest" is named for the Greek God "Boreas" who is god of the North wind

*known as the world's largest land biome

*the taiga is home to many species (Caribou, Grizzly Bears, Great Grey Owl, and Wolverines)

*Siberian Tigers may also be found within taigas

*taiga derives from the Russian word meaning "forest"

*the largest threat to these beautiful forests is logging

*this biome is essential to the fight against climate change because it is a large carbon reservoir (most of the carbon is stored within peat)

*because there are not many nutrients (due to long and cold winters) some plants are carnivorous

*pitcher plants get nutrients by consuming the spiders, small frogs, and insects that fall into its trap (which is shaped like a pitcher, hence the name)
