When OUR Johnny came marching home again

We yelled, Hurrah!

When OUR Johnny came marching home again

We yelled, Hurrah!

We lined the Union Station ramp

To hear the soldiers steady tramp

And we all waved flags and cheered

When OUR Johnny came marching home

On toes we stood emotions strained

To find his face

The men appeared the crowd all surged

We lost our place

My father lifted me above the crowd

So I could see and shout aloud

When OUR Johnny came marching home again

When OUR Johnny came marching home again

We yelled, Hurrah!

When OUR Johnny came marching home again

We yelled, Hurrah!

Eyes were strained to find my uncle

Come home from the sea

Then a hand raised, eyes locked

And he waved a smile to me

When OUR Johnny came marching home

When OUR Johnny came marching home again

We yelled, Hurrah!

When OUR Johnny came marching home again

We yelled, Hurrah!

All around were tears and laughter

Families reunite

Grateful sons and fathers

Had returned home from the fight

When OUR Johnny came marching home again

Mother and grandmother cried

Their tears ran free

The fathers stalwart by their side

Relieved to see

The young man that they'd waved away

A long remembered sorry day

But now OUR Johnny came marching home - at last
