Emily’s POV

The purity I felt in my veins was indescribable. It filled me with love and compassion that I only ever received from Justin. With shaky knee’s I was pulled off the floor by Carter, Justin just stared at me. I watched as the crowd of Angels knelt before me. They were actually kneeling, which made me turn around to see what important arc angel was behind me. It must’ve been an arc angel.

Carter nudged me with his elbow, “they’re kneeling for you.” My eyes widened.

“Um, you may rise, I guess.”

I looked over at Justin who was just staring at everyone, he obviously didn’t see their wings, he couldn’t.

I walked over to them, using both hands to connect with two others elbows. They couldn’t hug, it would damage their wings, their perfect wings.

I ran my hands over a small petite man’s wings, “so beautiful.” It came out below a whisper. He smiled at me. I wandered into the middle of the crowd and some gave me sympathetic smiles and some frowned.

I jumped when a hand caught me, pulling me into more angels hands enveloped me I couldn’t see, they were all over me. I felt warm, and at peace.

“Emily….. Baby, where are you.” I heard Justin’s voice and my heard skipped a beat. “Don’t touch me, asshole.” I heard him hiss at Carter. The hands fell off of me and more smiles appeared. I know what they did, and I was thankful. They healed me, something that would’ve taken me a while to do.

“Emily, please tell me what’s going on.”

“Justin….”

“What…. How did….. You’re completely healed.” His hands traveled to my forehead and down my arms. He looked around the room at the angels surrounding, I looked up at Carter who was smirking back at me. I shook my head at him and looked at Justin.

“You need to tell me what is going on.”

I sucked in a breath. Was I really ready to explain everything to him, tell him why I was here? He would never tell me anything, he probably wouldn’t even want to look at me anymore. I don’t know if I could be here for barely a month without him, let alone the maximum amount of time given for my mission. I love him too much. I guess that also means I love him enough to let him go, and hope that I have helped him enough to get his soul to Heaven when he dies.

“Can you meet me at my house? I need to speak with my friends privately?”

His eyes widened so much I thought they were going to pop out of his head, “I’m not leaving you here with these people, are you insane? And anything you need to talk about can be said in front of me.”

“Like I don’t have to leave the room half of the times you talk to the boys? No. Please meet me at my house, Gina and Brayden aren’t home.”

“……..Fine.”

We all waited silently as he left, looking back twice before shutting heavy door behind him. Then we all waited another moment for his car to pull out.

“It is a pleasure to see you all,” I smiled at as many as I could.

“We have a really big problem,” It was carter who spoke this time, his voice heavy with worry.

“Father has sent us to help, not all of us can stay of course, but we have set up a strict plan and we shall have weekly meetings for updates and possible solutions.” This angel was beautiful, not only in the way he talked but the way he just, was. His whole being screamed compassion and power.

“I’m sorry, what is your name?”

“I apologize, my name is Grayson. I’m sure we’ll all be introduced in time but right now we have a problem and we all need to strategize some more. Everything can go very badly if we don’t get things in order.”

“I’m sorry to interrupt, but what is happening?” My voice came out softly and warily.

“Her energy is draining, someone needs to take her home.”

Voice’s filled the room, buzzing around and filling every open crevice of the space we are in. A couple angels had left to take care of the bodies that have been living to our lefts for the past half an hour. The rest were all talking to everyone but me, then once in a while someone would throw another suggestion at me that I should go home. I know that Justin is waiting for me, but he can wait. Maybe they all know I’m stalling, maybe they are all here because they know I’m in love with Justin and they want to help me avoid this predicament.

“You have done very well on your mission, none of what is happening is your fault.”

I looked up at the angel with fiery red hair and tattoos engulfing her arms. “What is happening?”

“The men that you’re boyfrie- mission ‘is at war with’ are the same people that are hunting us. There have been twenty of us that have been captured. Father, he cannot achieve them and he has sent us to do it. You being in charge because you know Justin better than anyone and you know how these people work. They are hunting us down one by one, the man- he isn’t really a man. He is a fallen angel who is capturing us for our blood. We must capture him as soon as possible sparing as many lives as we can.”

“If I’m in charge, why isn’t anyone listening to me, they talk around me as if I’m going to break.”

“It is not an intentional act, they see how your energy is drained. We see how tired your soul is. Trust me, get some rest and we will have someone bring you up to speed when you are feeling better. I promise.” It wasn’t until then that I realized, I really did feel like crap. They must’ve dug deep to bring out my energy to heal me. You see, they technically did heal me, but they used my abilities, my energy. I’ve never been able to use the maximum amount of my energy before. Well, after I died I should say.

Carter drove me home even though I insisted on walking. I gave him a weak smile, “we’re going to be okay, aren’t we Carter?”

“Of course, I won’t let anything happen to you. I promise.” I nodded and shut the door behind me.

I walked in through the garage entrance and slid off my shoes by the mat. I walked quietly upstairs with an insufferable amount of dread that made its home in my head. I lied to him, and he will never talk to me after I tell him the whole story. He’ll think I’m a freak, and once I tell him how I died, he’ll think I’m weak.

I found him sitting on my bed, scrolling through his phone. He rushed at me as soon as I walked in, “I was about to come get you, those people could’ve killed you. I mean, who the hell were they and why-” I crashed my lips onto his, pulling him closer to me. His warm fingers slid up my neck and cupped my jaw, deepening the kiss. He pulled away abruptly and looked at me in a way I’ve never seen him look.

“You need to tell me what’s going on. I can’t protect you unless I know.”

I let out a sob that feels like been holding back for centuries, “I don’t want to lose you, Justin. I love you so much, I… I don’t know what I am going to do.”

“Emily.”

“About a year and a half ago I jumped off a bridge, and I died.”
