Silence stretched it's fingers around Jessica, feeding on the small seconds left before his imminent return. 'Tick. Tick. Tick.' She watched the clock on the mantel piece from her rigid position on the dining table chair. Anxiously, Jessica's foot repetitively shook as the nerves in her body trembled.

Tension grew as the silence stretched more and more around Jessica's conscience. She shuddered. Suddenly, the sound of the opening door filled the house. She took a deep breath. The thoughts of what were ahead of her filled mind and she felt nothing.

"Jessica?" The quarrelsome tone of his hostile voice frightened her. She felt a cold, salty tear run down her right cheek. Nothing could cross her raw, empty mind anymore.
