Outside, fine drizzle was wet and bitter as it found her cheek but somehow offered a welcoming relief. Almost refreshing. Jessica glanced down the street, empty now, with glistening cobbles illuminated by the soft orange glow of the lamp post.

She checked her watch. It had been a full five minute since she had left him. She had left with nothing. Nothing to show for the three years they had been together. Nothing, except the purple bruise that was beginning to take place on her right cheek.

She zipped up her jacket, thrust her hand into her pockets, averted her eye to the pavement and began to head towards the train station.

He hadn't tried to stop her. The door had slammed behind her - too later now - no going back. This time, it was final.
