A Tale of Fairies (A NaWen Fanfic)

Chapter 5

A/N Sorry it took so long. I couldn't get any ideas for a while. But here's what I got. It might not be as good as what I've written but, enjoy :)

As the sun broke the horizon, Wendy yawned and streched her arms up high, popping her back when she did so. She felt that she was moving and looked down into the pink mess that was Natsu's hair. she put her head back down onto the softness that she hadn't wanted to raise her head from.

"Hey, Natsu. Do you think we're close to Magnolia?"

"Go ahead and sniff the air."

She did so and instantly broke into a smile. "Let's go home, Natsu."

henodded his head in agreement and quickened his pace.

As they walked into town, they noticed that everyone was acting all depressed. They hurried to the guild and when they walked in, nobody was there. It started raining, but Natsu had been able to catch the scent of his guild members.

He and Wendy rushed over to their scent and put Wendy down slowly as he noticed where all the guild members were. They were at the Magnolia graveyard.

Natsu and Wendy rushed towards their friends. Natsu noticed that a lot of people were missing.

"Hey, Macao, where's Gramps, Erza, Lucy, and everyone else?"

"N-Natsu, they... they were killed by Acnologia, the Black Dragon. the Magic Council says that he released a roar that could match the Etherion Cannon. They say there isn't anything left of Tenrou. Their... gone."

Natsu didn't want to believe it. Gramps and Erza were some of the strongest wizards in the guild. Plus they had Gildarts with them. How could they lose with that power on their side?

"No way, they would never lose. They couldn't be dead. They have Gildarts and Gramps and Erza and, though I hate to admit it, Gray's pretty strong to," Natsu said slowly, as if trying to convince himself that his friends, no, that his family was alive.

"Listen Natsu. Do you really think that we would all plan this as some kind of cruel joke? They were our friends, to. Now they're gone, and we can't do anything about it."

And that was when Natsu broke. He fell to his knees, and cried harder than anyone else, and to fit the mood, it started raining. He remembered their faces, their smiles. They were the second family that he'd lost. (A/N For those who have knowledge of Natsu's past before Igneel, than its KIND OF the third family he's lost)

He felt a light touch on his shoulder, but just kept crying. As time went on and Natsu's cries faded, the remaining members of Fairy Tail went home. All except the dragon slayers.

Natsu and Wendy sat there, in front of the graves of their exceed friends, who had gone to help out if anyone had gotten hurt in the battle phase. They said nothing, just sitting there remembering all that their exceeds had helped them through.

Wendy scooted closer to Natsu and hugged him, tears streaming down her face. He hugged her back, crying again. They stayed like that for hours.

As the night fell upon them, they made their way back to Natsu's, since Wendy had fallen asleep. As he walked into his and Happy's house, his mood got darker. He laid Wendy on the couch and went to lay down on the bed, when his foot hit a photo from a job they'd had at a resort.

It was Team Natsu, and on the left, Natsu and Gray, punching each other in the face. Next to them was Erza, glaring at them because they'd come close to knocking over her strawberry cake.   Next was Lucy, smiling as Team Natsu was being themselves, and above her, Happy.

Natsu fell to the floor, tears streaming once again down his face. "I miss you guys... why? Why?! Why'd you leave me?! I still need you, I still need my best friends... I still need the people I value more than anything."

To calm himself down, he went out and fished up what would be breakfast, at Happy's favorite fishing spot.

When he came back an hour and a half later, he put the fish into the container labeled "Breakfast" and checked on Wendy. She was still on the couch, breathing softly. And so Natsu went to his bed and laid down.

When Natsu woke, he smelled fish and eggs cooking, and he went to investigate the delicious scent. When he looked into the kitchen, there was Wendy, cooking breakfast. She turned around and nearly dropped the fish she'd been preparing.

"Oh, good morning, Natsu. I hope you don't mind me using your food. I just saw that there were fish in the breakfast container. So I thought I'd make something, as thanks for letting me stay over here last night."

"No problem. But why would you do this? It's fine if you stay over, I mean, it's not like your not allowed in here. But you didn't have to cook. Happy usually takes ca-"

Natsu took a breath and let it out, telling himself mentally to not cry. After a few more times of that routine, he corrected what he'd just said.

"Thank you for cooking. Happy usually just had me heat up the food and do the things that he couldn't quite get. One time, he tried flying up to the higher shelves, put then he knocked stuff on the counter onto the floor and that's when we started ordering breakfast at the guild 5 days out of 7. It was times like that one that made me feel like this was enough to call a home with a family."

And so, Natsu and Wendy enjoyed their delicious breakfast and Natsu went on to tell her stories of Happy and Wendy told Natsu of stories about Carla. A little bit afterwards, they went to the guild and tried to lighten the mood of everyone. By noon, everyone in the guildhall was either laughing or ordering something to eat.

That day was one of the few that would be filled with smiles in the long 7 years that would follow.

A/N Again I am sorry that this took forever to come out but I'm trying to get back to the first story that I started writing. It's over two years old now, but the writer's block I've had on both stories is quite the annoying enemy. Sorry for the wait, I'll try writing the next chapter soon.
