Being Malina's older sister I leave a lot to live up to. My job pays amazing and after I finish school it will pay a lot more. When The Emperor, Kuzco, started at school he had his eyes on Maline. But when she refused to give him attention, Kuzco tried going after me. There was nothing wrong with Kuzco, but he was too scrawny and self-conceited. Though he was a friend, along with Kronk. The two boys were always around us.

Since I was close to getting out of school, I moved out. My own little home outside of the village. It was so lovely and perfect for me, a hard-working girl that is all about success. Personally, I don't have time for anything else. Finishing school is important and working to make money.

Malina walked into my home as I was making a breakfast for myself.

"Hey, sis," I smiled.

Malina sat down at my table. "Why did you move out, Mara?"

"Malina, we have been over this... I need to move out. Focusing on my work is more important," I replied, handing her some food.

She sighed. "Are you going to the dance?"

I chuckled. "Probably not."

Malina groaned. "Why not? It will be fun."

"Malina, I don't do dances. Besides, there's no guy I want to go with."

Malina raised her brow. "What if Kronk asked you?"

I scoffed. "I'd say no. Work and school are more important. Also, Kronk wouldn't want to go to the dance with me. I thought he and Kuzco fought over you guys."

She rolled her eyes. "They are over that. Kronk moved on which I am glad. I was getting tired of them. I don't know what happened, someone just caught his eye. Maybe it was you..."

I laughed, louder than I thought. "You're funny. Yeah, that's why Kronk bakes treats and helps me all the time."

Malina jumped up. "Yes!"

"Malina, you can't be serious. We are friends, like you and Kuzco. Well, eventually, you will be married to Kuzco."

Her face turned red. "No! Well, I don't know. Maybe eventually. Are you ready for school?"

I grabbed my bag and the hot sandwich I made. "Okay, let's go."

Sitting in class I jumped a little when Kronk tapped me on the shoulder. I leaned back to hear what he wanted to say.

"Hey, Mara..." he softly whispered. "Uh, after class I would like to talk to you."

I nodded. "Of course."

Malina looked at me with a grin and a raised brow. I stuck my tongue out at her for I knew what she was hitting at. But Malina was wrong. Kronk and I were friends. Just really good friends. Sometimes he helped me out while most of the time I helped his dorky self out.

After class was lunch. I was at my locker, putting my scrolls away. Malina came up and smiling wide.

"I told you that Kronk likes you."

I mocked a laugh. "Very funny, no, he does not. Did Kuzco ask you out, yet?"

Malina rolled her eyes. "Yes, he did."

I nudged her arm. "And you said yes?"

"Of course."

I closed my locker and Malina went to wrap her arm around mine. "Woah," I shouted, jumping back. "You know this, no touchy."

She rolled her eyes at me. "How are you, my sister?"

Walking into the lunchroom, Kronk and Kuzco waved at us. Sitting down, Kronk wanted to talk to me in private. So we went to the fountain.

"I, ah, made you some spinach puffs. I know they are your favorite," he sweetly said, handing me a plate.

"Awe, thank you. What is it that you wanted to talk to me about?" I asked, taking a bite of heaven.

Kronk scratched his head. "Well, I wanted to ask you... Uh, wow, this is kinda hard to say."

I could tell he was nervous. "Hey, it's okay. You can tell or ask me anything, Kronk."

He gave a sheepish smile. "Mara, I was wondering, well, if you would like to... Uh, go to the dance with me."

I felt my heart stop. Did Kronk actually ask me to the dance? "You want me to go with you..?" I quietly asked.

Kronk nodded. "Only if you want to go. I was thinking we could be scary mummies."

I gently touched his arm, his big and muscular arm. "Kronk... I would love to, but I can't. I'm just too busy."

"I understand," he sighed, dropping his head and walking away.
