christmas. the first time zach was going home since school started. he could hardly wait to get home and see his mother and siblings. his father, not so much.

well of course he missed his father and wanted to spend christmas with him along with the rest of his family, but he and his father didn't have the best of connections.

zach was fully packed and ready to go. excited to go. of course he would be missing his friends over the break, but he was itching to get home.

to see his baby sister. reese was zach's light, she was the most precious thing in the world to him.

he was just thankful her birthday was in august so he could be home with her. as much as he was enjoying hogwarts, the magic and everything was amazing, he did wish he could be home more.

the thought of reese growing up and having most of her memories happen when zach wasn't home... that was killing him.

"i see you're ready for home." kay teased as the group stood together before heading to the train. "think we could all fit in one train compartment?" jonah asked, smiling lightly.

the friends he made during the beginning of this term, he could not be happier.

"we'll make it work." gabriela giggled. the friends made their way to the train, ready to go home for the holidays.

whilst boarding the train, daniel saw jack with draco. their families spend christmas together every year, always have always will.

but what's going to happen now? daniel and jack are no longer best friends. or even friends at all it seems.

but was that just at school? or was that all around?

will jack act differently to him over christmas? or is he going to keep acting how he has been to daniel over the past few months?

"dani? are you coming?" christina snapped him from his thoughts, realizing his friends had already got on the train. "o-oh, yeah... yeah sorry." he shook his head, joining her.

"i know you were looking at jack, but he isn't worth it dani. he made his choice, he left you, please don't hurt yourself trying to fix things between you two. it doesn't seem like he wants that as much as you do."

daniel knew christina was right, he just wished she wasn't. but she really was, and daniel saw how much over christmas.

jack barely spoke to him, and when he did it was because he had to. it was terrible, it was breaking daniel more each and every day.

he wanted so badly for jack to wake up and realize how much of a jerk he was being. but no such luck.

daniel was heading from his bedroom to the kitchen for a bit of a late night snack when he heard a conversation. kristin, sydnie, and keri.

"i can't believe it was true. jack never seemed to fit the bill of joining that side." keri sighed.

joining that side? what are they talking about? daniel wondered.

"ever since jack was placed in slytherin i've been seeing it." sydnie started. "he begged me to tell him what was going on, mom i had no choice but to tell him, he was begging me almost all day every day."

"you told him about john? sydnie, we said we would do that together if it happened!" kristin proclaimed, keeping her voice somewhat quiet as it was late.

"it happened mum but you weren't there, we were at school. i had to. i told him about john. he ran off after i told, not that i expected him not to."

sydnie sighed, this whole conversation worried daniel. what was going on with jack? "and? what happened after that?" keri asked.

"i followed after him, i saw him talking to daniel, but daniel left and joined his friends, then jack ran off to the slytherin common room. after that i saw him hanging around draco malfoy a lot, and he hasn't been good to daniel. called him dirty blood."

kristin and keri gasped, "draco must have told him more about john. he must have mentioned how john and lucius were obsessed with blood purity. jack must want to impress john, make him proud."

daniel's eyes widened, jack ruined their friendship to impress someone he's never met? how could he?

"we were right kristin, everything said about john's first son following in his footsteps, it's happening. jack is following him." keri sighed.

"mum? does this mean that... you know who could be making a return?" sydnie asked worriedly. "let's hope not dear, let's hope not."
