Chapter 8

Emily's POV

We had just finished stretching and Miss Kate and Chris had gathered us together. "So first practice as A-Troupe," Chris said everyone let out an excited whoop and was clapping. Once it was done Kate continued by saying, "So today we're gonna talk about dance captain. Anybody wanna audition for it?" I had taken a deep breath before raising my hand, Miss Kate had said, "Thanks Emily. Anyone else?" I could see James nudge Michelle and she kept shaking her head no. Then Miss Kate looked directly at Michelle and asked, "Michelle, how about you?" She had shaken her head she said, "No, no thank you." She really wanted this for me, I know she would make a great dance captain too if she had taken her troupe to Nationals. I walked over to Michelle and said, "I nominate Michelle." Miss Kate and everyone else looked at me surprisingly before Michelle kept shaking her head no and said, "No Emily. You deserve it you've been here longer than I have." I nodded then said, "As right as you are I wants whats best for the team this year. And if that means having a little competition for dance captain than bring it on." She looked at me questioningly before saying, "Alright fine. You want competition you got it. Bring it on." Miss Kate smiled at both of us before she said, "Alright. So Emily you have Daniel, Tiffany, Chloe, and Eldon. Michelle you have James, West, Riley, and Stephanie." I nodded in agreement before I said, "You think you got this new girl?" Michelle rolled her eyes at the nickname before saying, "Oh yeah Em. Bring it on." Michelle and I had started laughing at our joking banter and everyone had joined us except for Stephanie and Tiffany. They're up to something I can see it. I shook my head and focused back on what Chris was saying, "So how it's going to work is you both will come up with some choreo and perform it for us and we will make a decision. You have until the end of today which is in 3-4 hours. Good luck dancers."

We had all split off Michelle took  Studio B and my group took Studio A, it had already been 2 hours and everyone was doing good. The dance came out nicely and I'm proud of my group. I had taught them the dance and we were just cleaning it up before taking a 15 minute break. After going through the dance with them 3 times they had it pretty much down pact. So I decided we could all take a break, "Alright you guys. Go ahead and grab juices downstairs on me and meet back here in 15." Everyone smiled at me before headed downstairs. I had decided to see how Michelle's group was doing and stopped in Studio B. Before walking in I knocked on the door and walked in. Michelle smiled at me before saying, "Hey. Whats up?" I shrugged at her and said, "Just let my group take a 15 minute break before making sure everyone was good to go. Wanna take a break with us?" She nodded before saying, "Heck yeah. Everyone take 15 and we'll meet back in here." I smiled at everyone before saying, "Oh everyone's getting juices on me down stairs." West had nodded approvingly before heading downstairs with the rest of the group. Michelle was dancing before saying, "Nice of you to pay for everyone's drinks." I shrugged while smiling,"They deserve it. So do you." She shook her head no before saying, "Nah I'm good." I sat on the floor and watched her dance for a few minutes before she decided to take a break and sat beside me. "You're a really good dancer Michelle," I said she smiled at me and said, "Thanks Em. Just trying to do my family proud." I smiled and nodded before saying, "Me too. My mom was a dancer." Michelle nodded understandingly before saying, "I get that. My aunt used to be a dancer and now she's a studio head." I smiled before saying, "Cool. So Miss Kate told me that I'd be having help with B-Troupe from a certain blonde." She thought about it for a second before she said, "I wonder who she's talking about." We laughed together and bumped shoulders which made me smile. I don't know why but she's been making me smile like crazy lately and I'm starting to see a slight change in myself. What the hell is wrong with me? I shook it off before focusing back on Michelle. We talked and joked around until our breaks were up. Then before I knew it our time was up and I found myself performing in front of Miss Kate and Chris.

"Thank you Emily and dancers, you were all amazing and I'm proud of you. Emily nicely done," I heard from Miss Kate as I was trying calm my racing heart. I looked to Michelle before jokingly say, "Top that Michelle," she smiles before jokingly saying, "Oh you know I will." We both laughed at our playful banter and they stood in there stances before the music played. As the music was playing I was watching there dance and they did an amazing job. I'm impressed by Michie, I can see why she was dance captain at her old studio. Every thing was going good until I saw from the corner of my eye Tiff nod at Stephanie. What is she planning. Stephanie started blatantly messing up the dance. This is not going good. I saw Michelle trip over Steph and the music had ended. I quickly walked over to Michelle and offered her a hand up as I asked, "Are you ok?" She nodded as she took my hand standing up saying, "Nothing hurt but my pride." I giggle before she turned her anger towards Stephanie and asked, "What was that?" Stephanie was playing innocent as she said, "I don't know I guess I'm a little under rehearsed." Michelle looked ready to kill as she got into Stephanie's face and said, "You're a liar. I asked if you were ready and you said yes." Steph shook her head as she said, "No I thought I was, but I guess not." Michelle seemed to get even more mad by the second I grabbed her arm and she looked at me. Everyone had gotten into a squabble about who was lying and all that, but Michelle nodded at me and took a breath before walking away.

I had done the dolphin tail noise to get everyone's attention and all eyes were on me. "Now that I have your attention I just want to say. Look it's over, Miss Kate and Chris will decided who will be dance captain despite what has happen. So everyone go get some water, cool off and meet back here in 5." I said despite not having being chosen for dance captain yet. Miss Kate looked at me approvingly before saying, "Thank you Emily. Now you heard your new dance captain. Meet back here in 5 because I have an important announcement to make." Everyone broke off before I realized what Miss Kate then looked to Riley and she smiled saying, "Congrats dance captain." That was when it hit me, I'm dance captain. I could scream for joy. Riley hugged me then soon Steph, Tiff and Chloe had all congratulated me. One look at Tiffany had reminded me of what she done. "Umm Tiff. Can I ask you a question? In private," I asked she nodded and the rest of the girls broke off from us and she asked, "What's up?" I looked down before asking, "Did you ask Steph to throw the dance?" Tiffany looked at me confusingly before saying, "Of course I did. We wanted our best friend to be dance captain not some newbie." I looked at her angrily  and asked, "Seriously? You shouldn't have done that. I didn't ask you to do that." She looked at me before saying, "And? You're dance captain. So you shouldn't complain. We got your back girl." She walked away before I could say anything and I took this time to go talk to Michelle. She was pretty angry earlier, but I wonder why it was so easy for me to calm her. Just like at school, and I wonder why she gets so angry like that. I shrugged it off and found her talking with Riley and James. Michelle smiled at me before saying, "Congratulations dance captain. Riley told me, I'm happy you got it. I wanted you to get it." I smiled at Michelle as I said, "Thanks Michie, but just call me Emily. I like the title but I don't want it to be like that with the dancers." She nodded in understanding, then Riley asked, "What do you think Miss Kate's announcement is going to be?" Everyone shrugged except for Michelle who looked a little uncomfortable about the conversation which confused me. I mean why would she be uncomfortable. I shook it off as Eldon came over to me. Oh no. Here we go again. "Hey Emily." I smiled kindly to Eldon as I said, "Hey Eldon. Good job during the dance." "Thanks, so I was wondering would you like to go out with me sometime?" He asked I rolled my eyes as I shook my head no and said, "Sorry Eldon, but no thanks." He nodded before walking away. As I said no Michelle looked a little happy which confused me, but made me smile at the same time. I like to see her happy.

"Alright dancers gather around," I heard Miss Kate say as she walked to the center of the dance floor, we all gathered around her and Chris. "So firstly I'd like to say congratulations to Emily," Miss Kate continued I smiled at her and nodded as Michelle bumped shoulders with me and smiled. Then Miss Kate continued by saying, "Secondly the announcement I'd like to make is kind of a personal one and I don't want any of you to think badly of this person." I looked confusingly at Miss Kate before saying, "Miss Kate quit staling, whats this about?" She looked nervously at Michelle before saying, "Well umm I didn't know about this till recently but," I'm confused why is she looking at Michelle nervously what did Michelle do. "I'm her niece," Michelle interrupted her before she could draw this out. Everyone looked at her and Miss Kate confusingly before Michelle moved from beside me and beside Miss Kate. "What?!" Everyone except Chris, Miss Kate, Michelle yelled. I was shocked. This was not what I was expecting that's when it hit me. She told me her aunt was a studio head and she used to be a dancer she just didn't  tell me what studio. She didn't even mention a name. I'm star stricken. I don't even have words. Then I heard from Tiffany say, "Oh so you chose your niece over Giselle. You had a biased opinion." Which would make sense, but that was when every thing got worse. Everyone started yelling and I just stood there not knowing what to say or do. This is not good.
