Tempting Fate

Standing on a tight rope
Above a meadow,
Flowers made of broken glass
Lie below.

I stand there
Challenging my breath,
I flirt with death,
I kiss her neck.

Mixed with fear and excitement,
My heart hammers in my breast.
I tease my life, my indictment,
A tightening begins in my chest.

Daring my balance
I dance across the line,
Threatening to cross it,
Threatening to die.

Falling into the cut of death's love,
Did I slip or did I leap?
Covering me in red from her heart,
In agony but at peace.
