His fingertips traced the curved edges of her neck,
Delicately feeling for her breath -
Each and every gasp and her whispering -
Because feeling the words escape her lips,
Felt better than to steal them with a kiss.

Yet his lips yearned for the touch of hers,
His eyes searched hungrily for their rosy victims,
But he restrained, continuing to gently feel her embrace.
She held onto him, wrapping her body to fit perfectly against his,
And he could feel her softness melt into his hands,
As he held her in the dark.

She was asleep, or simply dozing off,
And he loved every bit of nonsense she mumbled into his ear,
Because she rambled on about wonderland and superheroes,
Then always reached the conclusion that she loved him very much.
And it wasn't just the sweet words ringing in his ear that made his heart skip a beat,

It was the presence:
The warm sweet scent of her skin and lips,
The delicious form of her hips against his,
Her silky shoulder length hair,
Her smiling closed eyes in the dark.

And it took all his willpower not to wake her up,
And tell her he loved her too.
