It was like Hell.
When someone wants to describe a place or an event so terrible, they liken it to Hell. When this place comes to mind, we often think of a fiery pit filled with the damned souls of sinners doomed to be tortured by demons with pitchforks for all eternity. This can't be further from the truth of what real Hell is like. True Hell is far, far worse.
