Dear, Heart

Take in my oxygen, enrich my blood,

you will beat for me, until adulthood.

I can feel you if I really concentrate,

even more when you oddly palpitate.

Warm, rich blood through your for chambers,

you beat faster in the face of danger.

Thank you, for always having my back,

well..sorta.. you sit in front, pumping blood through my aorta.

So complex, so fascinating.. yet.. some may not agree,

interesting how you move blood through your pulmonary artery.

As the clocks turn, you will start to tire and fatigue,

keeping me alive will no longer come with ease.

Pumping my blood will become your burden,

but don't give up or you'll be fixed by a surgeon.

You are allowed to stop, only when I say,

by the time i'll be old and gray.

When we are both done and quietly lay,

you will remain with me to rot in my grave.
