La Cosa Nostra - Italian for our way or our thing, refers to the Sicilian mafia where each "family" is given sovereignty over a specific area or territory in which they control criminal activities such as overseeing rackets.
Made man - Someone who has been sworn into the mob, usually having participated in an induction ceremony. Made men are supposed to be of Italian descent.
Bog-trotter - Slang or derogatory term for an Irishman.
Da - Irish slang for "Dad"
Beatnik - A person who ascribed to the beat literary movement; rejecting conventional society during the 1950s and 1960s in exchange for freedom of artistic expression.
Jitters - To be nervous or uneasy.

Boss - The head of the mafia Family and the person in charge of making the most important decisions
Underboss - The second-in-command of the mafia Family and in charge of commanding units to carry out murders and other crimes
Consigliere - Meaning "counsellor," provides a channel of communication between the Boss and Underboss and the capos and soldiers
Capo - A lesser leader within the mafia Family of a crew of soldiers
Caporegime - More significant group leaders
