My mind was off in space, still, while my body kept going for those on Earth to be entertained with. I danced about, gave smiles and shook hands, signed off on reports and brought on new employees. The same old, same old. Just as I should have done. Just like my grandfather did.

I thought of the planets, like Mars, and Jupiter, and those lightyears away from us. In my spare time, I tried to keep up with new discoveries made about the worlds beyond our own. Even with my company, I found my own little rebellions with the investments in space and aeronautics. But they were futile tantrums with little results to show for. I was grasping at the cocktail of gases that pressed my body to the Earth, unable to climb out of this well.

Yes, I was successful with my work. I continued the legacy of our company's founder. My grandfather. He was so happy to give me his empire. It seemed to be the peace he needed to pass to Heaven. But I will be unhappy when it's my time to go. His company was his dream, not mine. I will never get there. I will never reach the stars above. I will forever be a puppet on a string, dancing for the shills and cheer of others.
