Sarah tried to find an indirect approach a few days later. But there were none.

"Hey there Liu," she said the next time she saw him, hoping she sounded as friendly and cheerful as she had when they first met. "I haven't seen you in a while. How have you been? Is your sister around?"

"Uh, I'm fine," Liu answered. "Sean's away at the moment though. She'll, she'll be back soon."

He's lying to me. He's still scared of me.

She realized immediately that she could never make him the offer she'd been planning.

He'd never want to come live with her at the Orphanage. Even if he was alone now. He was just too afraid of her.

He probably knew there was still the option of him being adopted. But he'd never want that, not even now.

"Well I better get going," she said. "It was nice seeing you Liu."

I wish I could help you. I wish I could give you some company. But you're too afraid of me. I don't want you living in a world of fear.

She watched him leave.

Liu would have to deal with this by himself. She just had to hope he'd get through it.

She just had to hope he'd get through it
