A thousand years from now.
The earth dies and all is lost.
And mankind would do nothing as
people are too busy living selfish lives.
I find it impossible to believe that
some of us will try to save our world.
Though the outlook appears bleak, and yet,
there is not much effort to set things right.
It is wrong to state that
we care for the Earth.
There is hope for tomorrow only if
we drastically change our lifestyles.
A hundred years from today, maybe,
rivers run dry and the oceans are salty pools.
It is impossible to envision a future where
there are no trees and no birds sing.
We have cut down our forests and
concrete jungles cover the land.
Tiny flowers bravely bloom yet,
there are only small oases in the deserts.
It is not worthless to hope if
Only humanity decides to act.
The future would bode well if,
we reduce, reuse and recycle.
Instead of wasting and wanting,
as we watch the icecaps melt.
When life disappears beneath the waves,
Do not wail, "All is lost!"
This is my second submission for the PoetsPub contest for May Week 1-2, where we had to a poem about facing the future, that includes both the 'glass half full' and 'glass half empty' perspective.
When read from top to bottom - is 'half empty outlook' and reading from bottom to top, where the tone is hopeful, is the 'half full perspective'.
