ASCENT;
—aren't you afraid of falling?
A girl balances on top of a short wall, walking as though she's on a tightrope, one foot carefully slotted in front of the other. Despite her precarious perch her steps are sure and her hands are tucked into her jacket pockets, a carefree smile on her face. She tilts her head back, the sunlight peppering warm kisses along her brow, her smile melting into contemplation as she mulls over her friend's words. He walks quietly by her, the top of his head coming to her shins, his own gaze fixated on the neighborhood sprawled out in front of them.
not particularly, no—
—why not?
The girl pauses. There's a lot of reasons why. For one, she doesn't see the point in fretting over something so minuscule when she has so many other things she could be thinking about. Besides, how could she explain to him that at this point, falling was merely another part of her life. She's no stranger to crashing and burning, having overstepped or misjudged a distance many times before, it was simply part of her sport like obscure bruises were to his. At some point in her life falling became like breathing for her; a fundamental in her life, albeit one she didn't love, but one she had long since made her peace with.
