My heart pounded in my chest as I uttered that word. It was a name I haven't spoken for so long. What the hell is he doing here?
He should be off with his new bride for their honeymoon.
Oh, damn. Is he on his honeymoon now?
Is Renee going to jump out of nowhere and strangle me?
I waited for him to speak, but nothing came out. He just stared at me.
"Why are you here?" I asked.
He smiled.
"For my honeymoon." he stated.
My heart sank when I heard his answer, what was I expecting anyway. It was stupid of me to think of any other reason why he's here.
"I see." I forced a smile.
"You got a tattoo?" he sounded amused. He was looking at my hand that held the beer.
"Yeah."
"Looks pretty good."
I shuffled in my seat and collected my things. If he's on his honeymoon, Renee might show up any moment and I don't want any kind of commotion or stress right now. I'm in a good place in my life and I want to end this trip on a good note.
"Going somewhere?" He asked.
"I'm calling it a night," I answered.
He held my hand when I stood up, stopping me in my tracks.
"Can't you stay a bit longer?" he looked hopeful.
"I don't really think that's a good idea." I pulled my hand away. "Renee might think otherwise."
"I see." he sighed.
"Enjoy the night."
And with those words, I took off.
I hastily made my way into the cemented path way and put on my sandals. I took a deep breath to clear my thoughts.
In case I run into Renee on my way back, I'll give her a smile and carry on. I don't want to get caught up in their business much longer than I need to.
I was tying the sandals on my left foot when I heard Mason's voice calling for me.
"Hey," he panted. "You forgot something."
I am pretty sure I got every thing with me. I looked at his hands and he's not even holding anything of mine.
He must've seen the confused look on my face and added.
"Me." He beamed.
Now, I'm really confused. Am I hearing him right or did I had one two many drinks again?
"You said you were calling it a night," he smiled. "You shouldn't leave your valuable possessions behind."
I must've looked like an idiot with a confused look on my face with my mouth slightly agape.
He's not making any sense.
"I'm pretty sure I have everything with me." I said.
"You forgot me." he uttered. "You shouldn't leave your valuable possessions behind." he repeated.
He made his way to me with a smile on his face.
I looked at him intently to check if he's joking, but even with a smile plastered on his face. He's serious right now.
