As Wyatt sets up a fire pit with some wood scraps he found left behind, and Marshal loads up bullets into his pistol.
"So, how do you plan on lighting that fire?" Marshal asks.
"What do you mean?" Wyatt replies.
"Last time I checked, you don't got any flint or steel, how are you supposed to light that?"
Wyatt gives Marshal a sly look as he stands up, un-loads his bullets, and sticks the gun in the pit and fires, lighting the wood up on fire. Marshal looks at the fire in surprise.
"Guess they didn't teach you that in cowboy school. Gun's got flint inside to light the black powder. Have you ever made your own gun?"
"No? I'm guessing you have?"
"Indeed, my father worked in making his own gun company, selling top quality pistols and guns to some of the highest paying offers. One day, he brang me into his shop, and I was taught to make my own. I've kept it since then, it's to notch quality with all the old school techniques. That's it really."
"Huh, what were the odds. You must have done talented things later on I'm guessing-"
"Nope,one time thing."
"Well, that's sad. You could've made a great business with your father."
"I did. I done my best to stick to it, I had everything I wanted, until you took Marribelle from me. She would've been safe if it wasn't for you..."
"Woah...listen neither of us would've known that would happened. And it's not either of our faults, what happened to her shocked you as much as it shocked me-"
"YOU-" Wyatt took this moment to reload his gun and point it at Marshal, "TOOK EVERYTHING GOOD AWAY FROM ME! I HAD TO GIVE UP THE COMPANY IN RUINS TO GO FIND MARRIBELLE, JUST BECAUSE SOME JACKASS NO GOOD SON OF A BITCH COULDN'T BE THERE FOR HER!"
Marshal draws his pistol.
"I was gone that night! There's nothing I could've done to protect her-"
"I DON'T BELIEVE A GOD DAMN WORD YOU SAY! I SAY WE SETTLE THIS LIKE MEN, I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUEL!"
Marshal just nods as they move away from the fire and stand back to back. Aftet a moment, they begin to take their 10 paces. Both men wait a moment before the make a move. Marshal seems relaxed as Wyatt tenses up. They turn to face eachother and both men point their pistol's at the sky in unison.
Marshal looks shocked as Wyatt walks over to him after they both put their pistols away. He simply places a hand on his shoulder and looks him in the eye.
"Look, I'm willing to work with you. Dueling isn't gonna help either of us... You made me realize that Marshal, I just needed a moment to reflect. So, what do you say, partner?"
He looks Wyatt in the eyes and places one of his hand on his shoulder too.
"I knew you'd have some sense, you got a deal, partner."
Wyatt chuckles as they head back to the fire.
"So, now that I'm not trying to blow your brains out, tell me about yourself a bit."
"Great question. You see, I too was brought up by my father. I was raised on a ranch, learned how to train the horses, and got to choose my own before heading off into the world. I was in awe the first time I seen Marribelle, if it wasn't obvious. She's quite the lady, isn't she?"
"Indeed, smart one too."
"Yup. There was always something about the way she smiles. It's always so bright, and yet you can feel like there's something that you just have to know about her. You think so?"
"A bit too much. How'd that Son of a Bitch get a hold of you after anyways?"
"I've been asking myself the same. I wasn't awake long before you came, but before that, nothing."
"Hm, maybe our journey will refresh your memory."
"Hopefully. You got any food or water, I'm starved."
"Ah, I forgot to get some before shooting up that bar back in San Miguel. I'm afraid we'll have to stop into the nearest town when we get the chance."
"Fair point," Marshal looks at a cactus plant not to far from him, "You still got that blade of yours right?"
"Of course," Wyatt hands him the small blade,"why do you ask?"
Marshal walks over to the cactus as he quickly de-pines one part of it and cuts it off from the rest of the cactus. He puts it in his hat as he gets another piece and then sits back by the fire.
"Now what in the hay are you gonna do with that?!"
"Cacti actually have large amounts of water in them, it's also why they stay so green," he tosses Wyatt a piece, "Just bite into it and you'll get some water."
"Isn't drinking cactus water dangerous?"
"Indeed that's why I'm glad you asked. Don't you see that these are normal cacti parts? They're actually a fruit that grows from them, which are perfectly edible. So, dig in!"After eating their food, they both go to sleep.
The next morning, Marshal is lying down asleep with his hat over his face, only to have it picked up off his face to have the sun hit his face.
"Alright mister cactus man, we've got to go get some drinks in our system. Maybe get drunk while we're at it? What do you say?"
"You had me at drink," Wyatt helps Marshal up to his feet, "Let's go, I could use a drink after being almost shot at by you multiple times. Has anyone ever told you how scary your are like that?"
"Nah, most people live that far to tell anyone, you're the first."
"I must be a lucky Son of a Bitch then."
Wyatt gives him a pat on the back as they get on Bullet as the sun rises infront of them.
