A week or so later
I must've been at this job for two weeks now. It wasn't getting any easier, thankfully I'd got it right the first time. The 'master' had announced his wife and kids were visiting him today which struck my curiosity - who could ever love a man so perverted? Maybe he wasn't always this way?But what could've given him 'those' ideas? What would he tell his children? I swept the staircase thoroughly as my support friend brought in today's mail, all we were allowed to do is share a smile. To say I'd become a completely different person was an understatement, I didn't even really recognise myself in the mirror but the relief I got at the end of the day was utter bliss.
The satisfaction of throwing the heels off, pulling out the silicon and tossing it into the duffle bag I kept my work clothes in and don't even get me started on the contacts! There were uses to being short and small, everybody normally doesn't take me seriously and finds me adorable but then I get the opportunity to prove them wrong and kick their asses.
There we all were, lined up like dolls with our hands folded on our skirts awaiting the arrival of the 'master's family members. A black land rover pulled up in the driveway "They're here" muttering among the other maids started up earning a glare from the 'master', his wife was an ill looking woman, definitely frail and fragile built.
His two children looked young but seemed to have younger children of their own "Grandpa!" yup definitely grandkids, I was never good with children! What am I gonna do?! Even when I was a kid, I didn't really have the mental attitude of a child, I didn't get on well with others so I'd have to adapt fast
I took in a cold breath as the youngest boy came to greet the staff, I could tell the family weren't originally from Japan, their Japanese was poor but because of my 'special' education, I spoke English but I never thought I'd have to use it. The 'master' was the only one with decent Japanese so I guess he'd lived here for a while.
"You maids better speak good English!" most of us shook our head confused, but I and one other nodded "You two are in charge while our guests are here" we nodded quietly in submission knowing doing anything other than what was asked of us, well it wouldn't end to great for us
"Psst, when did you learn English?!" my friend clearly wasn't impressed as her hushed tone became annoyed, jealousy laced her tone as she mentally compared my achievements to her own but I'd trade with her if I could - not the pain part but the learning side, so far I hadn't used half the stuff I'd learned...maybe she could've done better
"My education was...'eccentric' to say the least" we filed in one by one after the family entered the house. Looks like I was a translator for today, or maybe permanently - I couldn't understand the slang that they used but the rest was clear. What else was clear is that they didn't like us all that much, not that it mattered since the feeling was mutual but I'd have to play the 'good girl' for now
I awaited my next command at the door of the lounge where they were all sipping on the world's cheapest champagne talking about the old times. One of the kids just stood there with a toy bunny in arms staring up at me
"Joyce, stop staring at the poor maid" the little girl stayed there wide eyed before pointing right at me, did she know I was a bad guy? Was I supposed to do something with the bunny? Was this an English thing? I'd never felt this kind of pressure from a kid before then again, I didn't really interact with them all that much - was this what it was like to be a parent?
"I don't know her" all attention went to the 'master' "That one started a few weeks back, she adapts quicker than the others. Shes also one of the few that speaks decent English here." I bowed revealing myself
The elderly wife strode right up to me "Is that right?" I cleared my throat preparing to match her language and remember what I learned in my youth, it was awhile back but every now and then I had to read English so I would be reminded of the language
