What? Why?

Don't go.

Did I hear correctly? And he just left. For someone who hated humanity as a whole, it would have taken a lot of guts to say something like that. And just like that my whole mood uplifted. The numb ache in my heart I didn't even know I had was gone now as I walked back to the seat.

Before I could refuse the school transfer my day got better and my dad said in an apologetic tone, "Listen Edith dear, I know our separation has been hard on you and we didn't realize the toll it took on you. So we would like to apologize for doing this. Seeing that your grades have improved in a very long time I think this is a good school for you. Think once before signing that form."

I would have giggled I was that happy but I just sighed and pretended to be the good daughter that I was, "If you want me to stay I would."

"It would be completely your decision dear." My father might be a detective but he was nowhere close to catching my lie.

"I will stay for now I don't want more trouble for you."

He smiled in relief, Principal, on the other hand, looked just amused.

"Ok, then you can leave for now Edith. I have to talk with your father." He said and I immediately gathered my stuff and hurried outside.

Josiah was nowhere near so as usual, I had to rush back to the class ready to get scolded. But that was the least of my worries. I was kind of happy that I was not going back. And even though Josiah did say those two precious words to me, I would not pester him anymore.

Unless I needed tutoring of course, then it was a different matter.

"No way," Nelson said as he picked up another Doritos.

"Yeah, so I barely escaped dude."

"And now you are gonna give up on your crush?" Shailey said not really bothered about the whole deal.

"What crush?"

"Your obvious crush on Josiah." Ah, so she noticed.

"Umm...I can take a hint when I am not needed." I said feeling a little deflated about this.

"Come on, he does not hate you else he wouldn't have asked you not to go," Nelson said.

Apparently, he and Shailey had successfully proceeded to the friend phase.

But his words made sense.

"As far as I can remember at that goes back as fifth grade, he never ever had friends let alone girlfriends. He is always very conservative and from his persona, you can see how no one dares to approach him." Shailey said.

"Ok, let's just say he doesn't hate me, but he doesn't like me too much."

"Being a loner as he is, he might have gathered all his courage to come to you and stop you from leaving," Nelson added from a guy's perspective.

"Ah, what do you guys want me to do," I asked kind of getting confused on my resolve.

"Don't give up just yet," Shailey added with a mischievous smile.

"But he said I am brazen and annoying and whatnot."

"So that is you, straightforward and truthful. Till he himself comes to you and say leave me alone, just hold on to the hope that he asked you not to leave so might not find you that annoying."
