My darling Harvey,

Joy and joy abound! I have just read your last letter, and what happiness have I felt in knowing that this war is to end. Oh! How long have we suffered, separated, torn apart, countless tears have I shed, how much has my heart ached for your caress.....But now, there is hope! We will finally get the freedom we were waiting for...

For so long have I stayed without you, so many times have I been on the verge of giving up all hope. My faith in your return had been dwindling, and I had resigned myself to the fact that this infernal war would take everything away from us.

The loss of Mrs. Anderson next door remains tragic as ever. She has already received her third letter and dreads the moment when she will get her fourth and fifth. Her pain has filled all of us with the same dread.

But my prayers have been heard, and I delight that I will have you in my arms soon.

Awaiting your return,

Love,

Susie.

Harvey closed the letter and shut his eyes, begging for forgiveness, as the first of the atomic bombs fell.
