Chapter 7 ~ Waiting For A Star To Fall

I peeped in Cate’s room to find out she is still sleeping. I was expecting it actually. My roommate loves sleeping in. I walked over to her bed and removed the pillow covering her face. She is literally buried in pillows.

“Cate, it is Monday. You will be late for the orientation.” She has exactly an hour to prepare. That time frame includes the twenty minute walk to the auditorium.

She groaned and lazily stretched her limbs. “Go ahead. I’ll meet you there.” She mumbled and slowly got up and headed to hit the showers. I hurriedly put on my boots and told her that I will send her a text message to let her know where I am.

The auditorium is filling up really quickly and Cate is still nowhere in sight. I spotted Kendall and Mia slip into a row on the other end of the auditorium. Kendall’s fiery red hair is hard to miss. Patrick and Lucas walked in and settled on the seats four rows in front of me.

“Is this seat taken?” I heard a suave voice ask. I looked up to see Caleb smiling down at me. My heart did a triple somersault. I swear it did. I shook my head and he settled into the seat. I would like to thank my lucky stars for this blessing. “Why are you alone?”

“Cate woke up late and she has not sent me a reply or to meet her out front.” I explained while checking my phone again. I looked around for the elegant pin-up girl but I cannot find her.

Just then, someone whistled and I heard Caleb chuckle. “There she is! She is with the clowns.” He commented. Andy was the one who whistled and I turned to see Cate wave and blow me a kiss. She sat between Andy and Marcus. “She must have bumped into those two. They are always late.” He rolled his eyes at his friends disapprovingly.

I just chuckled. Cate and Kendall love sleeping too. I don’t know if they will be late for classes. Classes will officially start on Wednesday. I made a mental note to check their schedules and wake them up if I have to. I always wake up early anyway.

I observed as the new students quietly filled up all the seats. Caleb seems to be doing the same thing. We are both quiet and I don’t know about him but I feel awkward. I have a crush on him and I feel so self-conscious around him.

I checked out my seatmate. He is wearing dark denims with his biker boots. His grey shirt was topped by a blue shirt that complemented his hazel orbs. I quickly took him all in and turned my attention back to the speaker.

The orientation has started and the speaker welcomed us all to the Farm. I had to concentrate doubly hard on what he is saying. Several times, my thoughts wandered to the gorgeous guy sitting beside me. I am so distracted but he is definitely a welcome distraction.

He laughed at something the speaker said. Of course, I did not hear the joke. I was busy discreetly observing Caleb and trying to sniff his woodsy, manly scent. Stalker-ish, I know.

I wonder why he swore off falling in love while we were on the rooftop. What did his ex-girlfriend do to him? She blew the chance of so many girls with this guy, me included. I sighed.

“Are you OK?” He turned to me with a worried look on his face. I nodded absent-mindedly. He grinned. I really love the way the corners of his eyes crinkle. His smiles look so genuine and heartwarming. “Are you sure, Princess?” He is obviously teasing me.

I hit his arm playfully. “I am sure, my prince.” It slipped out just like that. He just laughed. I guess he did not notice. I breathe a sigh of relief. He already said he does not want someone like me. This little crush must not get out.
