Chapter 8 ~ Crash and Burn
“Hey, mom.” I greeted as she answered my phone call. It has been more than a week since classes started. I already have a routine and I am enjoying all the classes I signed up for. “I am doing well but I miss you, mom.” I whined to answer her questions. I miss the sound of her voice.
I miss being her baby. Back at home, my breakfast and clothes will be ready when I wake up. She would drop me off to school on her way to her bakeshop. I miss the way she fusses over me all the time. I hate to admit it but I also miss my crazy brother. I miss being teased and being bullied by him. Mom promised to visit me next month. She just needs to fulfill their latest orders before she can go.
I sighed and slumped back on my chair. I am seriously getting bored. Cate is not around. Her boyfriend is in town and she did not go home last night. Kendall and Mia went to the mall. I should have gone shopping with them but I had to attend a class this morning. It ended earlier than expected but I have already advised them I was not going so they left without me.
I have no one to talk to so I cranked up the volume on the stereo. My other love, Adam Levine, is singing about our lost love in ‘Payphone’. Yeah, in my dreams, he is mine.
I thumbed through my notes to look for any paper works I might have missed. It turns out, I have finished everything. I almost jumped out of my seat when my phone vibrated. “Hey, Pat. What’s up? Now? Sure.”
Patrick wants to hang out by the coffee shop. I know I will be bombarded by flirtatious jokes again but that is better than being bored to tears.
I quickly put on my scarf and boots and headed for the door. “So there you are! I've been looking all over for you, the woman of my dreams!” The freaking blonde guy has started his antics and I have not even set a foot out the door.
“Patrick, don’t start.” I glared at him. He just laughed and pushed me inside the elevator playfully. He reminds me so much of my older brother, Austin the Bully. We met Lucas and Andy by the lounge.
“Hey Elle, you've got something on your butt…” Lucas warned. I quickly brushed off any dirt from my pants. “…my eyes.” He quickly added and all of them roared with laughter. Ooh, the clowns.
I spotted my favorite brown-haired guy as soon as I entered the café. He is sitting with Marcus. His back is turned on my direction but I know it is him, my prince. He looked up and smiled when he saw me. “Hey, Tiny Elle. How’s your day?”
I slid in beside him. If I cannot be his girlfriend, then I will just settle on being his friend who happens to be a girl. “Oh, my day is great. In less than half an hour, I got hit on…twice.” I grinned and raised two fingers.
He chuckled. “I have to warn you, Marcus also has pick-up lines up his sleeve.” I pouted and pretended to suffer the weight of the world.
“How is your fever?” Marcus asked suddenly and reached out to touch my cheek.
“What fever?” I raised an eyebrow.
“Oh... you just look hot to me.” He smirked and winked at me. Shit, I cannot believe I fell for that.
“Told yah.” Caleb rolled his eyes and lightly bumped his shoulder against mine.
“One caramel macchiato for Princess Elle…” Patrick suddenly announced and set the steaming mug in front of me.
Did Patrick just call me princess? Apparently, he did because Caleb’s shoulders were shaking with laughter.
I pinched his side and he squirmed. “You didn’t.”
