"I still don't think I understand what this is all about," Kira said as Jadzia handed her a box of decorations.
Jadzia smiled warmly at her. "For our party!"
"Yeah, but why are we having a party?" Kira asked, looking down at the box of rainbow and multicoloured decorations.
"It's in celebration of pride month," Jadzia told her. She had told her already, but she didn't mind explaining it again.
Kira's brow furrowed slightly. "But pride month is a human thing. Neither of us are human."
"No, but pride month is to celebrate love and acceptance of love," Jadzia replied, picking up another box of decorations. "It's to celebrate people like us—two women—in love. And to celebrate anyone and everyone who isn't cisgender and heteroromantic or sexual."
"Humans have too many terms for sexualities," Kira mumbled.
"Maybe, but it doesn't mean we can't still celebrate this." Jadzia brought the box out to their living room. "Besides, who doesn't love a party?"
Kira smiled softly as she followed her girlfriend. "So you're just using this as an excuse to throw a party?"
"No, well not only. I think it's great that humans have a whole month dedicated to love. It really shows their character and morals, don't you think?"
"I suppose." Kira set her box down and rifled through it. "Where should we put all of these?"
Jadzia glanced around the room, mentally placing decorations. "Well, the rainbow flag should definitely go on the wall over there. And the banner with all the different pride flags should be hung over the back wall."
Kira nodded, admiring how invested Jadzia was into all of this. Bajor didn't have anything like pride month, so not only was it all new to her, it was also a little strange. Nice, but strange.
"Do you think these flowers should go in the centre of the table here, or on the side table over there?" Jadzia asked, holding up a grey vase with roses of all different colours.
"Centre of the table," Kira replied. "So that everyone can see them."
Jadzia placed the vase at the centre of the table and smiled. "Who knew you had such an eye for decorating?"
Kira smiled. "Please, the Cardassian's made these quarters so lifeless, I had to figure out some decorating to make it tolerable."
"Fair point." Jadzia smiled. "I think this will look great. I hope everyone likes the party."
"I know they will," Kira said as she kissed her cheek.
Jadzia took Kira's hand. "Thank you for helping me with all of this. I know it's a bit extravagant."
"If it'll make you happy, I'm all for helping," Kira replied, giving her hand a small squeeze. "And you're right: it's to celebrate love, and we all know the universe could always use a little more love."
Jadzia smiled and pressed her lips against Kira's, kissing her for a few tender moments. Kira put her hand onto Jadzia's cheek, smiling into the kiss as she thought how lucky she was to live in a society that allowed her to date the most wonderful woman in the galaxy.
