After quickly putting on my gym clothes for next period, I sprinted out the girls' locker room and into the gym. All the students were in one straight line at the back, while Ms. Hannigan, our gym teacher, was pacing infront of them. She turned around "Devereaux!" she yelled at me "You're late!" she crossed her arms "I'm sorry, ma'am. Someone was hogging the restroom." I said, glaring at Rachel Perkins, one of the most popular and most spoiled kids in school. Ms. Hannigan pointed at a spot beside one of the people in my friend group, Mikey Walsh. He was sort of the leader of the gang and my best friend. "Next to Walsh. Quick! Quick! Quick!" she yelled. I quickly walked and stood next to Mikey who was tightly gripping onto his inhaler "Okay. Do you know what we're doing today?" Ms. Hannigan asked. I looked at the straight line of students "Rehearsing The Sound of Music?" I answered jokingly "Shut it, Devereaux!" she yelled at me once again "I'm going to the restroom. If I hear one peep from this room," she held up a dodge ball "you know the consequence." she then turned around and walked out the door "What took you so long?" Mikey whispered to me "Rachel was hogging the restroom." I rolled my eyes "Ms. Hannigan will be back any minute now. Don't do anything crazy." and then he gave me an idea "Da da da da" I started singing "Y/N, don't." Mikey whispered "Da da da da da" I started to move my shoulders "Dammit, Y/N. You're just like your brother." Mikey said, lightly kicking my shin. I slowly moved to the front of the line and sang out loud

"Wouldn't it be nice if we were older
Then we wouldn't have to wait so long?
And wouldn't it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong?"

Students were smiling and giggling while Mikey looked at me like he had just seen a ghost. As I got to the end of the verse, students stopped giggling and stood still like statues. I turned around and saw Ms. Hannigan glaring daggers at me. "Oh." I managed to say although I was absolutely terrified. She grabbed my arm "Devereaux! Front and center now!" she yelled as she slightly shoved me to the center of the huge gym. She poured out the box of dodge balls onto the floor infront of the line of students "Each of you get one ball. Silently!" she instructed. She pulled out her watch and counted down "On the count of three, you try to hit her. 3...2..." we suddenly heard a loud bang. I looked at the line and saw Mikey try to shoot the dodge ball into the basketball hoop but missed "Oh, Mikey." I cringed at his attempted shot. Then he sang

"Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new?
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through?"

The students all looked surprised. Mikey wasn't the kind of guy to do such a thing. "Walsh! Front and center! Now!" he gave me a shy smile as he walked towards me. "I say we make a run for it." I whispered to him "Sure. I'm in enough trouble anyway." he whispered back "Dodge in 3...2...1...Go!" Mikey and I sprinted out the door as dodge balls came flying at us. "Damn Goonies!" we heard Ms. Hannigan yell as we both laughed hysterically while running down the halls. We ran to our bikes and went to hang out at the beach, where we watched the sun set.
