I drift in and out of peoples lives,
like a feather in the breeze,
you never really know I'm there,
until I start to leave.
I don't make my connections deep,
because I'm scared of what I'll lose,
I don't try to compete with anyone else,
and I'll never make you choose.
I prefer to stick to the sidelines,
because the spotlight hurts my eyes,
I hide behind a constant smile,
so you won't know it's a disguise.
people tend to forget I'm there,
when I'm in a crowded room,
I can disappear for days on end,
and I'm bound to do it soon.
don't worry if you notice I'm gone,
I never meant to stay,
but I know that you won't miss me long;
I'll be forgotten in a day.

Jodi McCoy is a survivor.

After making it through the American foster system with phantom pains from an amputated leg and a thick Scottish accent no one could understand, it was difficult to argue that she was anything but. With no true concept of family, she throws herself into books about criminology and psychology and everything to get her where she wanted to be by the time she'd reached a legal age; the FBI.

Only after joining the BAU does she come to understand what family means; and it's shown to her in the form of an awkward scrawny genius who likes to blurt out random facts.

Spencer Reid is a survivor.

To make it through high school at the age of twelve, you couldn't be anything else. Always the smartest in every room; the only one without a filter. The youngest member of the BUA segment, a well above average IQ, and afraid of the dark with roots leading as far back as his childhood.

Only after meeting his first official partner does he realize his safety comes in the form of pencil skirts paired with doc martins, and a mouth as fiery as the colour of the hair on her head.
