Raine Miles Cortes

Late na akong nagising kaya ako nahuli sa first day. Pagkatapos kasing ipaalam sa akin ni General Cortes na i-assign ako South City Headquarters, hindi ako makatulog buong gabi kaiisip.

Kung kaya ko bang bitawan ang mga nangyari sa akin sa dati kung trabaho para makapagsimula ulit?

If I'll be ready to face the same cases, murders and happenings that's probably worst than yesterday.

Alam ng ama ko na ayaw ko nang mangyari ang naganap dati. Ang insidenting iyon ang dahilan kung bakit ako nag-break for one year.

Yes, I did take a one-year break, but not to mourn for what happened to Eric. I had to know who did that to him.

As far as I know, Eric Matthew Simpson was a nice and friendly man. He doesn't have any enemies back then.

Nangyari lang iyon matapos kaming nagimbestiga sa murder case ni Renosa Lorvita.

After our brief introduction, we are now gathering in the meeting room for the discussion on the matters of the case.

At dito naghihintay silang tatlo sa sasabihin ko.

"Since I was the one who knows more about the case, I think you guys should listen to my report first.", I said

Sumangayon naman sila sa akin.

"It was almost one year since that happened and when my father had arrived after his duty. Tinanong ko siya tungkol sa kaso ni officer Simpson, at sinabi niya na may taong nag-report sa kaso ni Eric na galing dito sa SCIU. He was from the South City headquarters conducting a drug buy-bust operation together with his team,"

" It was twelve midnight when they heard a gunshot not far from their location. Unfortunately, when the police arrived, officer Simpson was dead on the same crime scene where the victim Renosa Lorvita was killed." I explained

Nakita ko ang pagkagulat na expression sa mukha ni officer Dechavez.

" After hearing the information, I asked for the ballistics report. I have learned that Eric's killer used a hunting gun. A 0.44 magnum Smith and Wesson revolver. So, I presume that the killer was not someone from the authority."

"  When I went to the forensics department, I requested for the crime scene photos then I studied it until I found out something. Marahil alam ni officer Simpson na babalik ang killer sa gabi kaya bumalik siya doon sa crime scene at noong nakita siya nito saka siya binaril pero mukhang may kulang," sabi ko

"Kaya pala tinanong mo ang opinyon ko tungkol sa kaso," sabi ni Oliver sa akin.

Tama,naassigned din dati si Officer Hernandez bilang member ng team. Siya 'yong kasama ni Eric sa patrol na naghatid ng mga ebedensya.

" Oo alam kung magkaibigan kayo ni Lewis, at ikaw ang ni-refer niya sa akin dahil mas magaling ka pa daw sa kanya and since, dati kitang schoolmate noon, hindi na ako nagdalawang isip na lapitan ka" paliwanag ko

"At doon namin napagtanto na ang nangyari kay Eric ay hindi katulad ng kay Renosa, " dagdag ko pa.

" Well it's pretty obvious," Ian mumbled.

"Officer Villanueva, na misinterpret mo ang ibig kong sabihin. Officer Hernandez and I examined the evidences and Eric's killer is roughly 6'2" in standing, but the shoeprint that has been analyzed by the forensics in the crime scene pointing to someone else," I said

"May iba pang tao na nakapasok,"  sabi naman Officer Dechavez.

" Tama at hindi sila parehas ng killer," dagdag ko at nagulat naman siya

" I reported the gunshot with officer Villanueva and that gunshot had almost disrupted our buy-bust plan by alarming the target, but we solved the trouble." paliwanag ni officer Dechaves.

" Pagkatapos ng gabi na 'yon, tinapos na namin ang assignment na binigay ni Kapitan Vincent Mercado, at hinayaan na lang namin ang mga pulis na resolbahin ang pagputok na nadinig" dagdag pa niya.

Pagkatapos ng pag-uusap namin at napagtanto din nila na magkaiba ang killer, tumayo na ako at nagsalita,
"So these two cases are somehow connected."

" Yes I agree. Bakit kaya pumunta pa sa crime scene ang posibling suspek?" tanong ni Ian na halatang naguguluhan

" I presume na magkakilala ang dalawang killer" pagputol ko sa tanong niya

" Sa tingin ko nagulat siya ng makita ni officer Simpson nang gabing iyon pero ayaw niyang mapagkamalan na siya ang pumatay sa biktima kaya pweding pinatay parin niya ito kasi gusto niyang protektahan ang pumatay kay Renosa," Paghuhula naman ni Oliver na nagpatahimik sa aming lahat.

Maaaring parehas sila ng killer, pero bakit kaya bumalik doon si Eric? Kung ang taong iyon rin ang pumatay kay Renosa, bakit siya pumunta ulit sa crime scene kahit  iniwan na niya ang biktima?

For a minute we all became silent, then it was broken by a knock on the door.

Officer Dechavez opened the door only to find Chief Vincent Mercado standing outside

" I hope I'm not interrupting something important, I just want to have a private talk with Officer Dechavez and officer Cortes." sabi pa nito

Bago pa kami makapagsalita sinagot na siya ni officer Dechavez.

" It's okay Chief, we are almost done with the discussion."

Paglabas ni Oliver at Ian, agad namang nagsalita si Kapitan.

"I have received a report this morning that there was an illegal drug dealing situation held along Maple Street near the old crime scene area. So, I want you and Officer Cortes to lookout for the area, just observe nothing else,"Chief explained

" Yes, Captain." We said then he dismissed us

Nang maka-alis si Kapitan, agad namang nagsalita si officer Dechavez.

" Gusto mong magbrunch Raine?" nagulat ako sa tawag niya sa akin.

Bakit parang matagal na kaming magkakilala?

" Sa expresyon ng mukha mo, nakikita kong naguguluhan ka kung bakit kita tinawag na Raine at hindi officer Cortes 'di ba?" tanong niya at hindi ako makapaniwalang nahulaan niya ang iniisip ko

" Oh don't worry, dito sa SCIU, pinapayagan ni Captain ang pagtawag sa mga first names ng co-workers mo. Alam mo na, hindi siya ganoon ka strikto pagdating sa ganyan. He prefers teamwork and friendship. Naniniwala siyang mas magiging matibay ang samahan ng isang team kapag kilala nila ang isa't- isa."

Tumango lang ako.

For the first time in a while, I found myself amused by this man.
