when hide was eight years old, her father hisashi, killed himself after battling depression and borderline personality disorder for over thirteen years. this affected hide deeply as she and her father had an unbreakable bond which they had shared almost all of hide's childhood. hibiki (hide's mother) had been more obsessed with work more than usual, so she can get her husband's suicide out of her head and although it had been a few years after hisashi had died.
hibiki had started neglecting both of her children (hide and hibiki,) causing hide's aunt to move both of the girls out of their house so they can live with her. after a year of living at their aunt's house, hide began to get really interested in novels specifically horror novels. hide wrote her first book when she was 13 years old and her aunt and sister were incredibly impressed with hide's talent so when she enrolled into hope's peak academy, she chose her talent as ultimate horror novelist.
