It's one of those nights where I can't sleep again, which is almost every night these days. My friends are either dead or risking their lives daily, and I've gotten noticeably worse in my shooting accuracy. I like to blame it on the injury the Oni gave me, but really I just think it's stress. So much stress. I'm also scared for myself, scared that at any moment something will find its way into my room and kill me in my sleep. If I'm not awake thinking about it, I'll have a nightmare, so vivid and frightening that I can never get it off my mind. And every time I'm paralyzed in my bed and can't reach a weapon to defend myself. I hate feeling helpless. Just then, I hear a knock at our door. I jump, holding in a scream. I check the time: 2:47 am.
I tiptoe out of my room, grabbing a Chinese ring dagger on the way out. In the darkness, I can't see my dad's figure and we collide. This time I do scream.

"ALLISON! It's just me," he reassures.

"Sorry. Did you hear the knock too?"

"Yeah. Look at what was in the hall."

He extends an arm, holding.. is that.. an envelope?

"It's addressed to you. No idea who it's from. Be careful."

I nod and take it. I turn on the light and immediately guess something is wrong.

"Dad. This is Lydia's handwriting."
