chapter nineteen,
alewife!

.:∞* RYAN HAS TRIED to prepare herself for March 27th.

Afterall, she's known for the past month and a half that her father will be in town for Easter. The entire time, Spencer is there to convince her it will all be okay - he's going to be there with her to cook, clean, prepare, do anything he asks of her for the entire day leading up to it. And for once, she actually believes him. Mostly because Samuel promised her he wouldn't be bringing her mother, and that's a good thing, because she thinks if he would have bought her a plane ticket, it would have ended in someone being thrown off the balcony.

It's not that she hated her mother; Ryan just disliked her presence, and if there was anyone she wanted Spencer to meet, it would be her father.

And it makes her a bit nervous when he gets called into a case four days before Easter. Of course he can't help when they get cases, and sometimes she's going to have to deal with the fact that Spencer can't make it for every single holiday, but more often than not, the cases last at least six days, so it's almost a no-go for him to be home when her dad gets here.

But then, just as she's dyeing eggs at the counter, he walks into her apartment at 3 in the afternoon on the 26th, only two hours before she has to head to the airport.

"You made it!" Ryan cheers, throwing her arms around his neck and kissing his cheeks; there's cherry red lip prints left along the side of his face and across his jaw by the time she's finished.

Spencer looks at her with soft eyes before saying, "I did. Can I help decorate?"

She softly laughs before pulling him over to the counter and together they dye eggs together for the next hour. Spencer makes one with their initials inside of a heart, and Ryan makes one for Mochi, and they even make ones for Penelope and Derek for when Ryan drops off baskets for them tomorrow night. "It's tradition!" she had declared while explaining the concept to Spencer, saying she did it every year for her sister, and now that she was so far away, she wanted to do it for Penelope.

And then the time comes for them to leave for the airport, and Spencer's admittedly a bit nervous; how was he supposed to prepare for meeting Ryan's father if he hadn't done anything like this before? All of the stories and anecdotes she told about her childhood framed him to be a wonderful man, but what if Spencer didn't fit the image he had for his daughter?

The entire drive to the airport, Spencer sits in the passenger seat of her car, scrolling through her music and playing what he wants to listen to. It will be forever funny to her, the fact he has access to an entire music library and he chooses to play Pon De Replay, but she still sits and sings along while switching lanes on the highway.
