"LOOK, the inner wall! I can't believe we finally made it to Ba Sing Se in one piece," Katara said as the five of us sat on a train taking us into the great city.
"Hey don't jinx it! We could still be attacked by some giant, exploding Fire Nation spoon. Or find out the city's been submerged in an ocean full of killer shrimp," Sokka told.
"Spirits lets hope not. We barely made it here alive," I whispered to Aang.
"Have you been hitting the cactus juice again?" Toph asked.
"I'm just saying, weird stuff happens to us," Sokka reminded.
As if on cue, a fat man squeezed in between Toph and Sokka. My brother widened his eyes as he stared at the man, who was sucking on an ear of corn. I rolled my eyes and faced Katara and Aang. The boy next to me gloomily stared out the window.
"Don't worry Aang, we'll find Appa," Katara assured. She glanced at me. "And Bonbi."
My smile vanished as I thought about my white dragon. I was so preoccupied with the past events that I barely thought about looking for him. He was somewhere here. He and Appa were so close, yet so far.
"It's such a big city," Aang mumbled.
"They're giant extinct animals, where could someone possibly hide them?" Sokka questioned.
The train cart went under the tunnel, leaving us in a moment of darkness. I covered my eyes as the bright light hit our faces again, revealing the huge city of Ba Sing Se. My eyes widened at the enormousness of it all. We passed by dozens of houses before slowing to a stop at the station. The five of us quickly walked out of the train.
"Back in the city, great," Toph sighed.
"What's the problem? It's amazing!" Sokka exclaimed.
I couldn't help but nod in agreement. This place was huge, and more importantly, free. This is the largest area that is not under Fire Nation rule. We could be safe here, safe from Ozai and Azula.
"Just a bunch of walls and rules. You wait, you'll get sick of it in a couple of days," Toph warned.
Katara, who stood by Aang, turned around as the train moved away. I followed her lead and glanced back, seeing two women smiling at us from across the tracks. I squinted, not able to see their faces clearly. The two quickly approached and as their appearances became more clear I couldn't help but feel my heart stop.
"M-mom?" I gasped. All of my friends snapped their eyes to me as I clutched my chest.
"Naya," the woman who once raised me said. My eyes widened and I ran towards her, wrapping my arms around her waist.
"I can't believe it's you— I can't believe you're alive!"
"Wait, you're Naya's adoptive mother who was taken captive by Ozai?" Sokka asked.
"I am her mother," Kanya snapped. "I have been since the day she was born." The Water Tribe woman looked down at me and brushed a hair from my face. "We have much to discuss and will get to that later. For now, me and my
associate, Jo Dee, will show you all around Ba Sing Se.""Welcome to our wonderful city, the Avatar, Akshata, Sokka, Katara, and Toph. Shall we get started?" Jo Dee asked.
"Yes, we have information about the Fire Nation army that we need to deliver to the Earth King immediately,"
Sokka said.
