It has been 9 years since she had felt heat from the sun on her skin, the only light she had in her space was a small dim light bulb that she preserved and would only screw it back in when she really needed it but she was used to the darkness

After years of being locked in here, she memorized where everything is, the steps she would need to take to get to the sink, the gap time when she can use the water without being caught

She was locked and chained in the basement of the house they moved into years ago though she was not aware of the time and the date of the present but every time she slept and woke up, she would carve one line on the wall with a metal rod that was chipped and it had thousands of carved line by now

The basement was not big but barely anything was there so it felt spacious but confined. The space fortunately had a bidet at the end of the room, a sink with a water faucet that worked but she could only use it secretly as the monsters would probably destroy it if they knew it worked, they were thankfully not that perceptive, a dirty mattress that was here from the start and few things that was left from the previous owners

She only owned two sets of clothing which were shirts, pants and underwear that she really took care of as she knew that there would be no new ones coming and luckily it was both large sized so unless she goes through a growth spurt, it would last on her for the coming time.

The only challenging thing when trying to care for it is due to the metal chain that was locked on her leg, she had to wear over it so it tends to stretch her clothing

The metal chain was connected to the pipeline so at times it would be hot then it could be freezing cold

The monsters also known as her 'parents' would throw a loaf of bread to her once a week so she would make sections to it daily, sometimes it would already be expired but what else could she do?

She did not know the reason as to why they locked her up like this, they were never good parents from the start but they left her alone to fend for herself though would get physical whenever they see her, she was only alive because her former neighbor- Jillian cared for her but she could only do so much as Jillian feared those monsters as well. Luna never considered on running away as they were still her family, the only ones she has

Why couldn't they end her life instead if they hated her so much?

Luna ( Lu - Na)was sitting on her mattress that was at the other side of the place, cradling her knee back and forth, imagining a future that she would never experience, remembering the times before she was put in this prison of hers

Talking to herself was also something she would do often as years of isolation would do that to you though no words would escape her lips, she doesn't remember when the last time she had spoken as whenever those monsters would come, they did not want to even a squeak from her or they would take out their whips

She did not know why they hated her so much, why they would torture her, why letting her live and not just kill her and be free from the burden of her instead they caged her and continued to feed her then use her as a toy to let their anger out but sadly enough she did not hate them, if they had asked for forgiveness

Luna knew she would forgive them without hesitation and that fact is sad. Strangely enough she wasn't angered but confused and sad as she thought the move would be a fresh start to becoming a family like the stories she heard from Jillian from story books that she had in her house but it seems like it was too good to be true

The sound of the door unlocking was heard and it made Luna backing away more to the ends of the room, she heard the noises from upstairs and knew that they had been drinking with several more people, their previous friends would always try to touch her and force her to do things that she did not want but fortunately at their drunken state, she managed to slip away but this time, she had nowhere to run

The stairs were creaking under pressure and she could hear the steps becoming closer "Oi you bug, i'm feeling generous so here's your shit" mother said drunkenly with her phone as a source of light, throwing the loaf of bread on the ground and muttered out few curses

Luna did not move nor made a single sound as her mother nagged about how ungrateful and useless her daughter, which she barely considers her as one

As she saw her mother leaving, Luna heard something dropped on the floor but as the woman was too drunk to realize she had kept on moving to go back up while complaining about her with words that were not so nice. She did not make a single move until the sound of the door locking was heard

She stayed still for few more moments until she took the light bulb that was next to the mattress and carefully made her way to the light bulb socket that was hanging of a wire from the ceiling so she could reach it though she needed to tip toe, spinning it until there was the little light which pained her eyes a little bit as she was not used to it

She took few moments to adjust and scurry to where she heard the item dropped, hopefully what she assumed the item to be is right

She kneel down and when she saw the light reflecting from it, she felt hope. The keys were under the first step of stairs and she hurriedly took it as if the monsters would notice the absence of it and come back down. Luna hugged it against her chest and took calming breaths and she felt tears were threatening to come out

If she were to die then she would rather die at the outside world, not in this prison which she did not deserved

Swiftly she took of her pants and inner, crouching back down and tried every keys to the lock and when she heard the unlocking sound and the metal chain dropped to the floor, she breathed out a sigh of disbelief and continued to put her clothes back on

But did she really have the courage to escape?
