So as some of you may be aware, I'm an avid baker, I have made several different kinds of cookies, and brownies, biscuits, cornbread, pancakes, and I've even made my mother's birthday cake with assistance from my sister and a decent amount of success. I make brownies every year for my birthday and have my favorite ice cream with them, and I've recently strayed away from box and bag mixes and just made them from scratch.
However, I'm trying to be more healthy as of recent, so my latest bake were some sugar cookies about two or three weeks ago. And I got a craving tonight, and decided to find a good chocolate mug cake recipe and try it for a small serving, as well as a trial for my father's birthday cake in September.
So I followed the recipe mostly to the tea, I ended up having to add more milk than it had said because the mixture was too dry, and I didn't add the chocolate pieces so I added extra vanilla and cocoa powder to add some extra flavor, before microwaving it for two minutes. It was a simple process, and it was very quick and easy.
Well I pulled it out, and with no patience to wait for it to cool, I poked it. It was softer than most cakes, nowhere near as dense, but I ignored it, and took a bite. Well, somehow, in spite of adding more of the flavorants than the recipe had originally called for, it tasted like nothing. Just, no flavor whatsoever. It tasted like cake that had zero flavoring elements mixed in, it just did not have a taste.
So, I don't know what happened with that recipe, but it's safe to say I won't be using it again.
Update: I tried again and realized that my two issues were that I hadn't added enough flavor any after adding more milk and water to make the correct consistency, therefore watering the flavor down, as well as eating it hot which makes some of the flavor hard to detect.
