Before I begin...
Triggers: mentions of abuse towards the elderly, verbal abuse
This character's game is dr35. He is not connected to any characters I have mentioned before.
Fandom: Danganronpa
Name: Fern Matchfield
Name Meaning/Inspiration: I just liked the name Fern- that's the only reason I used it.
Talent: Ultimate Missing Person
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight"I don't know if they'd want me home, not after all this time, but...I do want to go back home."
Appearance: Brown shaggy hair that falls into his face, hazel eyes, and pale skin. He normally wears baggy hoodies with dark jeans and grey sneakers. He also has a large black backpack that he carries basically everywhere.
Scars/Unique Features: He has a small tattoo on his back, a crane at the base of his neck. He got it when he was 16.
Favorite Part Of Body: His crane tattoo, because to him it symbolizes freedom and hope.
Least Favorite Part Of Body: His eyes. They remind him of his mother, and the idea of him becoming as bad as his mother scares him."I don't know why I was scouted. How can a missing person help improve the world?"
Personality: Fern likes to keep to himself. He enjoys the dark and quiet, and often seeks solace in it. If he is asked about his past, he'll tug on the sleeves of his hoodie, an indicator that he is nervous, and change the subject. When people ask him if he regrets leaving his family behind, he always says no. That, however, is a lie. He does want to go back. Thing is, it's been so long that he's scared of what his family might think. He doesn't know if they'd want him to come home at all. For that reason, he has decided to stay where he is and make a new identity in Japan. He also has a deep respect for the elderly, and wants to do all he can to help them. However, he is scared at the idea of becoming a parent. He doesn't want to be like his parents. It's very rare for him to feel comfortable enough to open up to someone, but when he does, he'll let the other party open up to him in turn. If he cared for someone, he'd show it in small ways. If he found that they were sick, he'd give them what they needed. If they were bullied at school, he'd comfort them before checking the local laws about bullying. If there weren't any, he'd find a way to get one. Normally, he isn't the type to fall in love easily, especially if there's a chance that it'll lead to him being a parent. However, should the circumstances be right, he is the type to fall for his best female friend. He probably wouldn't take the first move unless he was positive that the girl (in this case Amethyst) felt the same way. It's his relationship with Amethyst that fills him with the courage to go back home.
Likes: Cranes, the elderly, traveling
Dislikes: his past, his parents
Fears: Being like his parents
Skills: adaptable, comforting someone, handling money, figuring out the legal system
Coping Style: He'd be silent for a moment, pausing only to say something like "that's unfortunate." Depending on who the person was to him, he'd only cry when he was alone, most likely in his room after the trial.Romantic Relationships: Likes Amethyst Gold, the ultimate circus freak.
Past Romantic Relationships: None, before he went missing and after. He isn't a very social guy.
Platonic Relationships: Again, none. He doesn't keep in touch with his old friends and has forgotten their names as the years have gone by.
Family Relationships: Mother, father, lived with his mother's parents. For him, their fate is unknown (his grandparents have both passed away since he left). His father's parents wanted nothing to do with his family. Their fate is also unknown (They are both alive still.)."Hey, we're both misfits. Let's be misfits together."
Backstory: Fern was born in a small town in Tennessee as Matthias Wren. Time has long since blurred his hometown's name. His parents seemed good, when he was young. They did the typical parenting stuff, so he never thought anything was abnormal about his home life. As he grew older though, and started hanging out at his friend's house, he started to realize that maybe his home life wasn't so typical after all. He was 9 when he first went to his grandparents about it. He was scared to talk to his parents about it, so he went to his grandparents. In the briefest and most kid friendly way he could, his grandfather told him that his parents had a tendency to say mean things when they were stressed, mad, or embarrassed. They only said these mean things to his grandparents, because he was often at school or playing outside. He was saddened because of this knowledge, feeling that he was maybe responsible for some of that. He decided to be more good than normal, in the hopes that it would stop. He started catching his parents berate his grandparents on occasion, and was disgusted by it. At ten, he found that his parents had been slowly stealing his grandparent's fortune and were refusing to pay for medical care they needed. To help them, he started raising money by selling little pens and candies at school to help them get some medical care. However, by age 13, he found himself being mocked, scorned, and insulted by his parents. For a time, he took comfort with his grandparents, who, to him felt more like his parents. Eventually, he found himself looking at traveling laws more and more. He found a way to "disappear" from his family's life, and was determined to do so. A year later, he had changed his name to Fern Matchfield, in his grandfather, and he boarded a bus with a backpack, three changes of clothing, a little more than $300 in cash, and a new passport and legal documents with his new name. He never said goodbye to his family, and they never saw him again. By age 16, he had arrived in Japan and got his crane tattoo. Now, at age 17, he barely remembers his old life.
