I nestled my forehead on the steering wheel as I tightly gripped it from each side. I feel like banging it repeatedly but my intrusive thoughts didn’t win because of Jethro’s consecutive rushed knocks on the car window. I exhaled harshly. This idiot, really.

I leaned back and straightened myself in my seat while rolling down the window.

“Hey, Luna… You won’t abandon that kid, you hear me?” He said in a passive tone. “Pag hindi mo iyon kukunin talagang wala kang puso at ipagkakalat ko iyon.”

I shouldn’t have told him. My tongue slipped. Now he’s pestering me for real.

I bit my inner cheek. “I’ll call An—”

“Hindi iyon utusan!” He got startled by how he said it and how hard I stared at him. “I-I mean… May ginagawa ang tao, hello?” He lifted his hands from the car in surrender. “The gang is busy. I am swamped as well… You gotta do—”

“What do you take me after? An idiot?” I rolled my eyes. “Don’t be overly dramatic. Pupuntahan ko ang bata.” It sounded off. I just stumbled upon Jethro right outside the gym because apparently, he also has a gym membership there. Without further ado, we reached up to this point.

“If he isn’t there, it is no longer my fault.” I whispered. I glimpsed at my wrist watch.

This is all that guy’s fault and I am pissed off beyond what I imagined. I wouldn’t be in this situation if only he wasn't stupid enough to leave that kid alone in the streets. I just want this to get over with and wheel the game into another direction so I can put this all to rest. Asking a favor from Jethro is even unlikely and the more this unfolds, the more I become diabolical and enraged. Sol should be held accountable to these unfortunate events happening, huh.

I revived the car to life with a frown.

“H-Hey, don’t leave a scratch ah! Hindi akin itong car! Sa kuya ito ni Cahil—” Pinaharurot ko na ang sasakyan.

It took me a while to locate his current location because I wasn’t accustomed to this side of the city. I slowly maneuvered the car on the roadside when I spotted a familiar child sitting on the bus stop, shamelessly bawling his eyes out.

Sumandal ako sa upuan at binuksan ang phone na may iilan ng mga message sa taong kikitain ko ngayon. How unfortunate, huh, that I found him unscathed? Well, he’s fucking my responsibility now. I fished out a stick of cigarette from my pocket and slipped out of the car. I lit it up with a lighter as I strode towards the gremlin. I don’t know how to feel. He looked pitiful and was probably here before the dusk came.

There were a few people standing but no one minded the child. I would do the same, honestly. Working hours are already tough and you have to deal with an orphan after an eight-hour shift.
