Regulus POV

It was the 30th of October. I regret what I said to James. I looked at the time and suddenly remembered what Bellatrix told me.

It was 1am on October 31st. I apparated and ran into the Potter household.

James POV

I finished up dinner and washed the dishes while Lily went to go put Harry down for the night.

We had gotten news that we were somehow a target since we had Harry and we planned leaving early morning. Most wizards don't go out on the 31st so we'd be clear.

I heard Lily telling Harry that she loved him and that I loved him. I stayed downstairs not wanting to disturb their moment.

It was getting onto midnight when I heard a sound of apparating outside. I went outside to look but saw no one.
I went back to the couch.

Almost an hour later, the front door opens and I grab my wand. I see Voldemort and he yells the killing curse my way.

"Liavismola recentra" I yelled back.

The spell worked! I was alive but weak. When trying it on a dummy it's much easier than facing one of the most powerful wizards. I fall onto the floor and I pretend to be dead. He walks up the stairs.

I heard sounds of apparation and Regulus burst threw the door.

"James" he came to my body.

"Hey. The spell works but still hurts" I said.

He didn't even respond to me and just ran up the stairs motioning for me to follow.

Regulus POV

I was so happy, James was alive but I didn't have a minute to waist. I ran up the stairs and he followed.

I heard him go to kill Harry put I jumped in front of his wand and yelled  "LIAVISMOLA RECENTRA". I blocked the spell as best as I could but Harry got a small cut on his forehead.

James ran up behind Voldemort and yelled "Avada kedavra". Voldemorts face sent blank. His lasts were  "Blacks betray". He was wrong. Blacks are incredibly loyal and hold their hearts in pain.

Voldemort collapsed on the floor and his skin started peeling into ashes leaving dark dust behind. I open the window to get it out.

"Don't need all this dark energy around a baby" I said opening it.

James ran into my arms and kissed me.

"You came back. Reggie I'm so sorry you thought I didn't love you, I do and always will. Thank you!" He said kissing me again.

Lily stood there in complete shock.

"Um what?!" She said.

James turned around and hugged her whispering sorry to her.

He brought her downstairs and I sent a patronus to the ministry and Remus.

I went downstairs grabbing Harry. This was my first time holding the little boy. He was adorable. He held onto me crying. I quickly made him stop and we walked down the stairs.

"It's a long story Lily. So be ready and I'm sorry." I heard James say.

"In my 4th year, I saw Regulus by the lake. It was Valentine's day and fairy like balls of light were floating all over the place. I saw Regulus covered in them trying to read. I walked up to him and when he looked up at me the lights changed to pink. He looked adorable and I started having feelings for him. I knew I couldn't be gay in this world. So I started asking you out knowing you'd never say yes. In 6th year when Sirius ran away to live with me, he would always talk about Regulus and the more I learned about him, the more I crushed on him.
Then in 7th year when you said yes I was glad my cover couldn't be blown but I felt horribly guilty. I imagined you being Regulus every time we kissed even to this day. You are a best friend or sister to me Lily and I love you but platonically. I'm sorry.
Then in November of 7th year, I saw Regulus at the back of a bookstore in Hogsmead. It's hidden and has books about being lgbtq+ and you can be openly gay there. We promised to never speak to anyone about seeing each other. That's what we were talking about in the halls the day he caught us making out.
Then in May, he brought me to the ROR and taught me about horcruxes and how he was going to go destroy a horcruxe made by Voldemort and was probably going to die in the process so he wanted to confess his love for me before dying. I said I loved him back and we spent the night together. I felt in love at that moment. Like true love.
The next day before he left I gave him my invisiblility cloak since in the deathly hallows the youngest brother escapes from death thanks to it." James said motioning for me to continue.
