love comes quickly.

when you write

sometimes you force your thoughts into words

but other times, like now, words come spilling

out of your mind, like tears during a sad movie,

daydreams during a particularly boring lecture,

hot popcorn popping in the skillet above the fire.

and sometimes your story unfolds all at once

out on the paper, like secret kisses shared at night,

clear ice cubes melting in sour picnic lemonade,

knowing you love someone when you finally

look at them in the light of the stars.
