chapter 20 / the smog pirates

Lou's POV

Two hours, huh? Ace's call with Y/N had ended and two hours was the time we had until her anticipated return.
We better find out who the Intruders are. And we should do so as soon as possible.

Frustrated I gritted my teeth.
I hope they aren't Marines. I'd hate to be stuck here for ages again.
Y/N and I had decided that it would be best to let Marines explore Ukuthula island if they ever came across it. If they didn't find anything interesting they would mark it as another uninhabited unimportant island and that was the best outcome we could hope for.
However the last time Marines had found their way to our home they had stayed for nearly a month. I'm going to go crazy if I'll ever be stuck here for more than a week again.

"Zoom in," I ordered the surveillance transponder snail next to me.
The ship was a mere ten minutes away from the island now, we had to decide how to handle it.

I held my breath as the projection zoomed in on the ship, revealing a fairly large vessel with three masts and a black flag blowing in the wind. I leaned forward studying it closely. It was a pirate flag depicting a skull shrouded in yellow mist.
So it's a pirate ship. I've never seen that flag before though.

I furrowed my brows in concentration but couldn't come up with any information.
Hah, so much for being well informed.
Sighing I turned to Ace who was still standing in the middle of the cave, staring at the snail phone in his hand.
What's wrong with him? Well, what ever.
"Hey pirate boy, come look at this!"

"What is it?" I watched with annoyance as the raven haired pirate took his time, walking lazily towards me.
Breath in, breath out. It's fine Lou. No need to kill him. You need him to identify his colleagues. He really has no understanding of how crucial this situation is. Especially without Y/N here.
"Do you know what crew that flag belongs to?"

"Huh? Oh, is that the ship heading towards us?"

"No it's a winged Seaking. Of course it is!"

"Oioi, calm down. Let me see."

I studied the pirate boy's face thoroughly as he furrowed his brows examining the flag.

"I don't think I've ever seen them. At least I have no idea who's flag that is," he stated shrugging his shoulders with his annoyingly calm demeanor.

Great, now what? Should we wait for Y/N? Do we simply attack? How am I supposed to develop a battle strategy if I know nothing of the opponent and my main fighter isn't here?
"I guess we'll wait and see. We can't rush into the fight without knowing about their strengths and abilities."

*Swoosh* I watched in horror as the pirates began to spread out over the southern beach and surrounding area.
Oh no. Why did I ever let them set foot on the island? Y/N is going to go crazy if she sees this.
Ace and I sat in the surveillance room as we watched the projection of the events taking place on our shore.

"How dare they!"

Ace jumped up boiling with anger at the scene we were witnessing.
At first everything had seemed fine. The pirates had landed on our shore and spread out to gather resources, it was nothing to worry about. They filled their ship with fresh food and water and we almost thought they were going to leave again.
But then their captain emerged and brought with him a cloud of smog that quickly spread across the island.

I watched in horror as yellow fog crept through Ukuthula Islands luscious forest, wilted it's ancient plants and suffocated it's lively animals.
He is destroying my home.
My eyes widened in the realization as anger welled up inside me.
Oh, I will show them what happens if someone dares to touch my home. I will rip them to pieces, send them back to the age of dinosaurs, drown them in the white sea, I will desintegrate them into the nothingness.

I felt my rage reaching my bloodstream, felt the fiery energy surge through my body. But before I could fulfill my darkest threats Ace snapped me back to reality.

"Graaaaaaaaaaah! We're is the damn exit?! I will kick that guys ass! How dare he destroy this beautiful island! How dare he attack my friends home! I will make him pay!!!"

"Ace-" I looked at the enraged man with wonder. Then I laughed. He is just like Y/N! Always worrying and taking responsibility for other people. However soon my laugh faded. Don't get to attached-.

"Why are you laughing?!" Ace stared at me with rage burning eyes.

"It's nothing. However you are right we better stop him, before he does anymore damage. Also we probably shouldn't let Y/N see this."

"You got it! Huh wait why?"

"I prefer a white sea."

Y/N's POV

Sighing I hung up the transponder snail.
They aren't going to answer are they?
I had tried to reach Ace and Lou to get an update on their situation however noone was picking up the phone.
I wonder, have they gotten into a fight?
I better hurry.

Ace's POV

"There they are." An evil smirk appeared on my face as I sat in one of the trees surrounding the beach the pirates where now partying on.

"Eat and drink as much as you want! This island has enough resources to last us a month!"

"That is if you haven't destroyed it yet, captain."

"Kiiiiihahahahaha, I'm sorry I had to make sure no surprise attacks where awaiting us on shore."

"That's our captain for you!"

"He's always putting our safety first!"

"Aww, your to sweet captain!"

"Such a considerate man!"

"Aren't you guys a selfish bunch. If you see someone who destroyed innocent people's homes as considerate... I'd say you need a reality check. Let me educate you.
Such behaviour is incredibly rude," I said cracking my knuckles as I stood up, taking a last bite of the meat they had been cooking.

"Wait, who is that?"

"When did he get here?"

"He ate all our meat!"

"What? But I just cooked that a few minutes ago! Noone eats that fast. We would have noticed!"

"Ah, thanks for the meal by the way." I bowed towards the person whom I perceived as the crew's chef and took a fighting stance.

"Now then. Who is the asshole that destroyed my beautiful home?" Home huh? I never thought I'd find a place like that again.

"Wait I recognize that face! That's Fire Fist Ace!"
