AJ's POV

I just stood there in shock when those words were spoken. I had no reason to believe anything Mr.Hemington said. He was a deranged man who belonged to a mental institution. Why should anyone take his words seriously?

I didn't want to but there was something in the way he said it. He sounded so smug and every word was uttered purely to taunt Rylen.

He knew Rylen.

Mr.Hemington looked at him differently. I was aware that I only knew the man for less than two hours but there was this recognition written all over his face. By this time, I had somehow found my way through the double doors. I should really get out. I wasn't supposed to be here, observing all this but I just couldn't help myself. I would appreciate it, if no one judged me for that.

Mr.Hemington's words seemed to have affected Rylen deeply. He didn't seem unbothered like he did usually. His face turned into a scowl while his eyes only hardened even more if that was possible. He looked scary, like he wanted to hurt the old man. If Mr.Hemington was just some random crazy loon, why would Rylen even care to bat an eye in his direction?

"Take him away. Now." He sneered at the staffs.

His cold voice was enough to have me back away and out in the open reception area.

I  could only hope that alpha queen bee did not see me.

"AJ! Where the hell did you go?!"

"Um....nowhere?" Cora looked at me pointedly and waited for an explanation.

"I didn't do anything I swear!" I crossed my heart and smiled at her sheepishly. When did my best friend become so strict? It was weird seeing her this way.

~~~~~~
"Hey, you were really ballsy today. I think it was extremely cool. You should be like this around all those assholes surrounding Elizabeth." I mumbled plainly while putting away the files from Cora as she handed them to me. If she could just show Elizabeth this strong side of her.
"Did you see my assigned patient? I have to be ballsy AJ. I must show a strong front or else."
I raised a brow at her. "Or else?" Did she not see any connection at all? Like even a bit?
"Or else these people will manipulate me and take advantage of the naive student."
"Mhmmm," I gave her a knowing look and walked ahead. My best friend was clueless.
Once we settled inside our dorm room, I couldn't hold it in anymore. I had a million questions running in my head and I knew if I kept quiet any longer, I would explode.
I was patient enough to wait until we showered and sat comfortably on our beds. I stole a few glances of Cora as we ate our Chinese takeaway. Fried noodles with wontons. And fishball soup.
"Okay, enough with the glances. Ask away AJ." Cora spoke directly.
"Okay, I'll ask but I have a like a hundred questions to ask." I looked at her with wide eyes, full of determination. Cora nodded, knowingly. I guess she expected this from me.
