It was a chilly day in green leaf and all the clans that lived around the forests sensed that leaf fall was on its way. Lionwing pounced on a large vole, killing it with a single bite to the neck. He grasped it in his jaws and carried it back to the rest of the patrol.
Nightfang was with Whitebelly, Eagleflame, and Cinderstrike. "Nice catch! I caught this HUGE plump squirrel. Tell him Nightfang!" Cinderstrike meowed excitedly. Her brother rolled his ice blue eyes. "Yes Lionwing it was a very big squirrel indeed."
The golden tom tried to hold in his laugh. "Cinderstrike. It's been two whole seasons since you've been made a warrior and you still act like an apprentice!"
"Well I'm sorry if being a warrior means you have to be grumpy and sad and boring all the time! I'll be all those things when the mice dance!" the gray and white warrior protested, and without another word she picked up her large prey and started to walk back towards camp with an excited bounce in her step and the rest of the dawn hunting patrol trailed behind carrying in their catches of the day.
As they neared the thorn tunnel, Lionwing thought he heard more excitement and chattering than usual happening in camp. Cinderstrike was right about one thing. All the warriors didn't really have the time to chat until all there jobs were finished like going on patrols or marking the borders or cleaning up the dens which everyone done by sunhigh.
But it was still early morning and Lionwing watched the patrol go in before him wondering what all the joy was about when he heard Eagleflame and Whitebelly gasp. Whitebelly stuck his head through the thorn tunnel. "Um Lionwing. I think you might want to see this." There was excitement and pure shock in the old tom's meow.
Carrying his vole, Lionwing reluctantly followed Whitebelly through the tunnel and when he looked up it made his heart jump right into his throat.
In the center of camp was this tall, beautiful she-cat with pure white fur, silver and black caped stripes, and black paws. When the she-cat turned towards him, the brown-striped warrior spotted a long scar zig zagging down her shoulder which he didn't remember and kind teal eyes that filled with excitement which he did. It was Silverpaw. The very same Silverpaw who fell of the edge of Bramble Valley and died. The very same Silverpaw he had a crush on since they were six moons. His vole fell from his jaws and landed in a patch of grass with a thud.
"S-Silverpaw?" he whispered her name with shock and disbelief.
"Lionpaw!!" Silverpaw cried and sprinted towards him. Lionwing stumbled towards her crying and he nuzzled her. He dug with head into her shoulder fur, sobbing with surprise and happiness.
"I-it's really you. I-I can't believe it! I thought you were-" he began. "Dead? Not yet! Nothing could stop me from coming home. Especially falling off a cliff," the teal eyes she grinned.
He backed up so he could see every inch of her kind, gorgeous face. "I'm guessing you have your warrior name by now. You did pass the assessment too!" Silverpaw meowed.
"Yeah I'm Lionwing," Lionwing smiled, his heart bursting with joy and shock and hope.
"Ooo I like it! Thornstar did a great job with one!"
"Wait speaking of Thornstar we have to go tell him right now!! You'll be made a warrior! You should've been made a warrior twenty-four moons ago," his mew was filled with sadness and guilt when he whispered the last words.
"Lionwing. It was not your fault that I fell! It was the stupid snakes fault. Heck it was probably my fault for not holding on tight enough!" Silverpaw's voice was stern.
"No no. Silverpaw I was right there! I should've helped you. I-I understand if you're upset with me," he sighed. "Not at all! Listen to me. I. Do. Not. Blame. You. For. What. Happened," she said slowly.
The orange-eyed tom had to admit he felt a little less guilty that day. And it was defiantly because Silverpaw was home. To her birth place. To her family. To him.
"Now what are we waiting for? Let's go tell Thornstar!" And they both raced each other excitedly towards the ThunderClan leader's den like they were fearless, bold-headed apprentices again.
