Sorry I'm a little late to the party, but I had an audition last week, and callbacks were today. I didn't get a callback, so that means I now spend my free time here! Now time for a one shot about Percy's birthday! (It's in 3rd POV)
Surprisingly, Annabeth kept her cool a week before Percy's birthday. She was only a little hectic when she texted Piper ten times about how she was in charge of getting the cake. She was slightly stressed when she reminded Jason and Leo for the fifth time they had to keep Percy busy. When she told Will and Nico to go shadow travel over to Camp Jupiter to get Frank, Hazel, and Reyna the day before Percy's birthday, she was still seemingly okay.
Inside she told herself, "Keep it cool. Keep it cool."
Then August 18th came and rational thought didn't exist anymore. She silently skunk out of the Athena cabin without waking up any of her younger siblings. She was staying at Camp Half-Blood, Percy thought she was visiting her Dad. Sally would pretend that Chiron needed Percy at camp, then Annabeth could surprise him with a party.
But then Piper came running out of the Aphrodite cabin wearing a t-shirt and sweats. Her hair was up in a messy bun. "Annabeth!" She cried when she saw the 18 year old daughter of Athena.
"Piper you should be at the bakery in exactly 5 and a half minutes. Then you have to get the decorations from Sally's while Percy's at swim practice." She read from the folder she was holding. There was also two other folders, a notebook, and a binder in her backpack.
"Change of plans." Piper said. "The bakery suddenly closed out of the blue. They're delivering the cake to Sally's. And Percy's there right now!"
Annabeth dropped her folder. "What!!!!!!" Annabeth screeched.
Piper stepped back. "Yeah. I have to go get the cake now. I'll try to intercept it before it gets to the apartment." She dashed back into the Aphrodite cabin to change.
Annabeth took a deep breath. She slowly picked up her folder, and plastered a smile on her face.
Then Will ran up. "Annabeth!"
"Yes Will?"
"Soo.... you know how Frank and Hazel have to go and meet Percy at the camp entrance and act like they came over when they found out about the crisis?"
"Yeah..."
"Well.... Frank's stuck in puppy form. Long story. That had to do with a dare from Leo and a gaggle of Aphrodite girls. He's been stuck all night. I can't get him back to his demigod form."
Annabeth froze up. She gave Will a sugary fake smile, and took another deep breath. "Well ask Lou Ellen for something. I'm sure the Hectate cabin can help."
Will took a step back, then nodded and rushed off to find the counselor for the Hectate cabin.
Annabeth prayed to the gods nothing else bad would happen.
Then Leo got a broken wrist from a tennis ball (don't ask), and the cake was the wrong order.
Finally, when absolutely nothing else could possibly go wrong, the decorations caught on fire before they could decorate the pavilion.
Annabeth dropped her bag of organizational things, and ran towards the beach in tears. She kicked at the sand. She got a rock in her gray converse, and sat down on the ground, not caring about her nice pair of jeans and her actually nice looking gray blouse.
She got the rock out, and hurried her head in her knees.
"You okay Wise Girl?"
Just great.
She plastered a smile on and hopped to her feet. "Hey Percy!"
Percy cocked an eyebrow. "I'm not that dense Annabeth. What's wrong."
Annabeth sighed, then smiled again. "Happy Birthday Seaweed Brain." She gave him an unconvincing kiss.
Percy grabbed her hand when she pulled away. "Fine don't tell me. Let's go, it's dinner time."
That late already?
Annabeth squeezed his hand. "Yeah let's go."
Annabeth gasped as they entered the dining pavilion. It was lit up with fairy lights which pared really well with the now setting sun.
Only one table was set with a pretty saying white table cloth, and really nice looking china, no doubt from Sally's chinaware cabinet. There was a glass vase with red roses. And on the plates was Annabeth's favorite food in the world: Pizza with olives. There was also a serving platter with a cover over it.
Percy turned to her, and she was now aware how handsome he looked in a suit and blue tie.
Behind a column, Piper was hidden. She pressed a button and Annabeth's favorite Mozart song played gently, giving the scene the perfect effect.
"Happy Anniversary Wise Girl." Percy smiled at his girlfriend.
Annabeth was lost for words. "Percy? You did all this for me? But it's your birthday?"
From Olympus, where the author's godly mother was watching, Zeus walked past the television that was playing live feed from Camp Half-Blood. "Athena's daughter doesn't looks too fancy for that kind of dinner." He noted, then continued with his godly business.
Aphrodite frowned and peered closer at Annabeth's outfit. "Why that isn't right for what Percy has planned!" She turned to face the reader, her perfect eyebrow raised. "Don't you think so?"
She turned back to her TV, and flicked her hand.
Back at Camp Half-Blood, Annabeth's jeans and blouse were transformed into a very pretty, but still sensible looking, gray dress. Her curly blond hair twisted up into an elegant braided do, and her converse turned into gray lace up flats, because Annabeth doesn't wear heels
Percy smiled, and quickly sent a mental thanks to Aphrodite.
He led Annabeth over to the table, and watched Piper, Jason, Leo, Frank, Hazel, Reyna, Will, and Nico sneak away behind Annabeth's back. He discreetly shot them a thumbs up.
"How'd you do all this?" Annabeth asked in wonder.
"Well," Percy began, "it started with me telling everyone terrible things to act out to sell the idea that everything was going wrong. Then Piper called the bakery after you got off the phone, and changed the order. Then Leo burnt the decorations. And I had Frank turn into a puppy. I know you too well, you got so frustrated, you ran to the beach. Lou Ellen put a temporary enchantment to keep time slow down at the beach, so I helped the gang set all this up, and she took down the enchantment in time for me to go get you."
Annabeth's face was a look Percy had never seen on her. "You planned all this?" She asked.
Percy grinned. "Yup! Let's eat!"
Annabeth smiled gently. "Okay Seaweed Brain."
They ate their pizza, then Percy has one trick left.
Annabeth made an offhand comment about a book she was reading, when he looked her straight in the eye.
"Annabeth,"
"Percy?"
He took the cover off the platter. There was a red apple. He picked it up.
"Catch."
She caught it.
She jumped up and lunges into his arms. She murmured a single word in his ear. "Yes."
