her

"take a picture
of the person next to you!"
i groan and turn to south,
who is grinning like a
mentally crazed freak

"i'll go first!" he exclaims,
running a hand in his black,
small intricate looking braids
he smiles, as i snap the picture
of him.

i observe my work carefully,
south turns up as a glorious,
happy little boy with incredibly
beautiful coffee eyes

"how do i look?"he asks,
peering over my camera
"damn, i look hot."
i look up at him,
"big ego much?"
"no, happy with what i
see in the mirror much."

he gets his camera,
holds it up and winks
i attempt a feeble smile
thing was; i wasn't
much of a smiler

laughter is not in
my vocabulary,
smiling is not in
my dictionary,
happiness is a stranger
to my world

"smile, rosemary!"

-

him

she is a puzzle
of the loveliest roses
in the entire universe,
waiting to be put together

"hey, smile!"i say once more.
the sun hits her mauve eyes,
her blonde hair looks like
the sun's weaving put on earth

i capture her anyway,
and stare at the picture
for a solid five minutes

there is a haunting
trace of sadness in her eyes,
adding to her cathartic magic.
i wonder if guys feel
this way when looking
at aprhodite.

she frowns, "is it that bad?"
"if only,"i mumble. "look."
she does, pursing her pink lips
"i look like shit."

"are you blind?" i ask.
"uh, no. i see you, don't i?"
"but you don't see YOU."
"it's not worth seeing."
"kindly shut up, rosemary."
"don't fuckin' tell me what to do."
"but you're beautiful."

she stares at me,
blinks, "listen,
if you think this
whole nice guy act
will help you be my friend
or whatever it is you want,
you're wrong, alright? go
pester someone else."

my balloon is popped,
slowly emptying its air out
but i vow not to give up on her

i will make her
see how beautiful
her soul is, then i'll move
onto pushing her to
realize that she's
gorgeous on the outside.
