Thal took a deep breath before finally asking her mother what she had been dying to know about for years.

"Mum," She approached the subject nervously while they were both sat on their sofa eating dinner, "Can you tell me about my Dad?"

Her mother froze, and for a moment Thal thought that she wasn't going to answer. But she began to talk.

"I was wondering when you were going to ask," She started, "I honestly should have told you before but I just... I just hate talking about him. I always feared you'd judge me for being with him, or turn the hate onto yourself,"

"Lissa, we have great news,"

The blonde maid looked up at her parents as she entered their small home. Like all the other houses in her tribe, it was made of stone, hand built by her father as a mating gift to her mother.

It was a tradition that was handed down for generations - if you were a worthy male, you would build your female a home for her and her young to live in. There were few members of her tribe left, however, so there were not many homes anymore in their little clearing.

"What is it?" Lissa asked, the pearl colours in her white tail glinting in the light from the sea lanterns.

"We have received a proposal," Her father smiled proudly and Lissa's heart began to race.

Jimin had been courting her for quite some time and she had noticed that he had been collecting large rocks. They had shared a secret kiss under the moonlight when he had taken her to the surface and given her her pet name, as many males did when courting.

He had finally asked her parents permission!

Lissa couldn't stop the smile from spreading on her face, her dimples in plain view from joy.

"Jimin-?"

"The Poseidon himself has recognised you as the Princess of this tribe and wishes to join us together in alliance with a mating to you!"

Lissa's heart almost stopped in her chest as fear and sorrow rushed through her.

"The Poseidon?!" She gasped, "No, Mother, Father, I am to be mated to Jimin!"

"No," Her father said firmly, "You are to be mated to the King. It is a great honour for our tribe, and as Chief, it is my order,"

"You will be picked up tomorrow by the royal guards," Lissa's mother smiled, reaching to touch her wrist, "Come, we will prepare you properly for his Majesty ,"

Thal's mother cleared her throat as if clearing her mind.

"Your father is very handsome," She said, "And very charming and generous, to start,"

Thal frowned, "To start?"

Her mother smiled a little, "Yes. He would lavish me with gifts and take me to beautiful places. He was a very powerful male, both with social status and body. He was... feared... by most, though loving and passionate with me,"

There was a long pause and a look of pain flashed across her face, "But that changed quickly. After... He did something unspeakable and when I fell pregnant with you and found out you were a gi- well I knew I had to leave,"

She looked over at Thal, "He is dangerous, Thalassa," She said, "And he controls the... area by the ocean. We need to move because he knows you are here, and I would do anything... anything... to save you from his plans,"

"What plans?" Thal's voice was barely above a whisper. She could almost feel her mother's fear.

"Thalassa," She replied, "I've been hiding this from you since you were born for your own safety. It might not be believable, but I promise I had my reasons and.. and I can prove to you that what I'm saying is true. I... we.. are Si-"

A loud ringing accompanied by a buzzing sound cut through the air.

Thal jumped and reached for her phone, sighing when she saw the caller.

"It's Jungkook," She silenced the call and looked at her mother. "What were you saying?"

Her mother smiled, "Nothing. I'll tell you tomorrow. I'm going to have a bath," she kissed her daughters forehead and took her plate to the kitchen.

"Don't stay up late, Thal,"
